Old is relative, but assuming you're really 61, you have 12.5 years before you reach the average male American mortality age, 5.5 years to go before you can draw full social security benefits, and some time before you can even draw minimum benefits. By those standards, I'd say you're gettin' up there but still have a ways to go before I'd consider you old. I have a neighbor who is over 87, still sharp mentally, and strong as an ox. How do you feel? How is your mind? Your health? Your outlook on life? Those are the important things.
Than you. Here in the UK I have to get to 67 before I can get my pension or retirement. My health is starting to let me down, which the government like the F#@king bastards, as they get their pension after 4 year of being an MP (Member of Parliament).
Hey Joe, [I bet you get that a lot, sorry] I have ten years on you and I am just this year starting to feel "old". Of course , like you my mind still thinks I'm 20 , however my body is now deciding not to cooperate !! Don't think there is much to do about it except take better care of ourselves and watch young women ,with a wistful sigh , lol.
I think we become old as we learn the lessons we need to: Empathy, respect for others including other-humans and fellow creatures, amend for our wrongs, wisdom that comes only from experience, humbleness, healthy deflation of ego, an appreciation for what we didn’t know then or now….a very long list!
Maybe wisdom is related to you having to take two advills before you even put your feet on the floor every morning....or is that wizdum?
When I was young I decided I’m not old until the Prime Minister is younger than me. That happened fifteen years ago, so I redefined it - I’m not old until I can’t jump a hundred times without a break. I admit it’s been a couple of years since I tested that. In between those two, I reckon the defining “you are old when” indicator is when you get up from your chair and make a noise.
Hope you don't mean farting or I'm fucked. Seriously though, I sometimes think age and experience make me wiser, sometimes I think I am never going to grow up. None of it matters! Take each day as it comes and act according to how you feel mentally and/or physically on that particular day.
