i'm afraid it was more ghastly than that. The wife, Betsy Arakawa, a talented concert pianist died first, from a respiratory disease caused by Hantavirus, carried by rodents which live in New Mexico and other southwestern states. She had called an emergency specialist unsuccessfully for treatment three times on the day of her death. Gene, 95 years old and suffering form Altzheimer's, was dependent on her for his care, and died six days later from heart failure. Sad ending for such a talented couple

I know. I live an hour from Santa Fe and the local news has kept us one step ahead of the national news. But I never saw hantavirus coming.
When I lived in New Mexico it was a real concern. Many people in the area had experienced that disease. Nasty little things, mice. I don't like them, but they do fill a role ecologically. Just not in my house thank you!
Arizona has a host of critters and diseases, millions of scorpions, lots of Valley Fever, Gila Monsters, multiple variations of rattlesnakes, coral snakes, javelinas, roof rats, many types cactus - some are huge! Add an occasional jaguar defecting to Arizona, we have quite a mixture.

Born Sylvester Stewart in Denton, Tex., in 1943, Stone and his brother, Freddie, formed Sly and the Family Stone in 1966. The band also included their sister, Rose. Stone’s influence on pop, funk and rock music was solidified with the release of the band’s album “Stand!” and its hit single “Everyday People” in 1968.
