I couldn't believe this when I first heard it. Some restaurants in Detroit, at least in my area, have taken away their restrooms from their customers. They say it's because the customers are misusing the privilege by vandalizing them. (I only occassionally even shop in Detroit, and I rarely use restaurants here. So I really don't care. But you know I have two medical conditions [one under control, fortunately] that make bathroom access vital. So did my mother.) Restaurants in Michigan are required by law to have restrooms available to their customers at all times (unless it's a restaurant that is only take out, of course). And these facilities must be well-maintained, sanitary and well-lit. I was thinking, they could always post a guard outside the restroom door. Or they could have a guard stationed inside the restroom too. Or if that's too expensive, they could post a dummy camera outside the bathroom. Or even in the bathroom. It wouldn't work of course. But people would think it would, so they'd tend to behave themselves more. Sheez.
Guard outside the door?! = too big an overhead for a business to absorb. That could be more costly than repairs. Cameras within the toilet area whether at sinks/mirrors area or in cubicle is a no-no. Privacy and safety reasons. Potentially:- Put a contactless card-reader on the door to enable access for a fee.
Ya I goto salvation armys and alot of them dont let ppl use it because they end up trashing it........ People dont give a crap about others property
Jim, you don’t say if you have actually experienced this. what is common in my area is number coded locks, so customers can get into the rest rooms.
Downtown L.A. No public use of restrooms from any business. Restaurants have pay toilets for paying customers only. The City installs and maintains Public Toilets on Street Corners.
