how can you get that frayed look on the bottoms of your jeans... besides wearing them a lot and stepping on them? isnt there something you can do while you are sewing them, or alter them in some way? for some reason i remember someone saying something about setting their jeans to fray, but maybe im just making that up.. i dont know.. see, this is what i mean...

    thanks!

Ehm, just fray them? Like, cut off the seam (or pick it loose if it's gonna be too short when you cut it off) and pick out some of the threads. If you want it to be a 'neat' fray, that doesn't go further than what you picked out, you may want to stitch all around the bottom about 1/4 inch up, or however long you want the fray to be. That'll prevent more threads from coming loose on their own. If you like it to become a little more irregular in time, cut & fray only. (jeans fabric doesn't fray too easily, so you don't have to be afraid it'll fray real far)

you can buy them that was. they have some at the gap right now and they also have a bunch in the contemporary and juniors sections at most department stores. I wear mine really long so it just happens for mine.

don't deliberatly fray them! its so phony! just wear em a lot and eventually they fray. Before i stopped wearing trousers my jeans would fray really well and look awesome through the natural approach

Yeah just cut them off or take out the seam and let them do their thing. It happens quick.

ohhh and get ones that are a size smaller then you wear because just as they get comfy and become your favorite jeans they'll stretch and get baggy. Wear them around the house untill they stretch out enough to fit in the place they're tight and then after you wash them a few times they'll be perfect. I have a shelf full of jeans that I can't wear because they bagged out):

I sometimes fray mine 'cause I'm quite short & I often have to shorten my jeans when I buy them. They rarely have them with a short enough inseam here -the US definitely had a better choice for short folks, most brands I wore when I lived there were okay to wear without altering them.

But how would you fray them naturally? Mine seem to wear out in different places, like at the knees, before they really start to fray. Only when I wore them long enough to just drag the ground did they fray but then just at the rear, never in front, not even a little... and I don't like the feeling of 'm dragging the ground now I go barefoot, dislike stepping on them. Maybe I'm just too careful with my clothes, I rarely get rips, tears or frays in anything if I don't start it off on purpose... got clothes that are ten years old and worn a lot and still look fine.
