There's a Beatles thread for this, so I thought I'd make one for the 2nd greatest rock band of all-time.

I only listed the important ones.

    Mine's Brian. [IMG]

Mick Taylor for me, ofcourse the Stones is all about Mick and Keith but in my opinion they made their best albums with Mick Taylor.

I just love Brian... he was such a diverse musician, and played nearly every exotic instrument that was available to him.

I'd agree with that! The Mick Taylor era is my favourite period in The Stones' work..

He was a great slide player! :H

Brian Jones, mainly because he was so innovative.

Brian Jones not only formed the stones, he was the coolest and most musically talented......by miles. The first time Mick Jagger and Keith Richards saw him, he was playing slide in the style of Elmore James. In the early sixties, with no internet tablature or readily available guitar mags or even good music manuscript, this was simply astounding.......and they both knew it.

His pure blues based power drove the early stones gigs and recordings. I laugh when I hear Richards was so influenced by Ry Cooder with slide and open tunings........he had seen Brian Jones do all that years before, but ole Keith couldn't master it then!

Mick Taylor? Very good, but not in the same league as Brian Jones. He played slide in standard tuning, for a start, which is very limiting and lazy.

Brian Jones, with his tear drop Vox Phantom? THAT was cool, different and
set many a muso/guitarist on the path.

I like the Brian Jones era best, but I'm going to stick with Keith as my favorite

and I like theStones far better than the Beatles.

if only they had quit in the early 70's.....
