I don't think the purpose was to take and hold the government. It was to obstruct finalization of the election in hopes of throwing out the results according to the plans worked out by the Trump supporters. It was enough to send the members of our Congress into hiding.

No, I do not think that J-6 was a serious, tightly organised event. Certainly not like an ANTIFA event where batteries are removed from phones and nobody is ever detained through skill of slipping away. on J-6 Idiots wore their varsity jackets, posted the event to Facebook and sparked a doobie in the Speaker Emeritis' office. Of course some were deadly serious, others severely derranged or hostile. Yes some armed w deadly force. But this melee had no chance of changing or effecting anything except to bring shame on its perpetrators; and fodder for Congressional hearings. the random violence and vandalism is dispiriting.
J-6 occoured at the end of a year filled with random violence from the G. Floyd murder and resulting events. The CHOP zone events in The US Northwest and disturbances at the southern border, and more.
Our media sought to sooth our collective concerns throughout the year.

If the J-6 people thought they would receive the same forebearance from US media they were sadly mistaken. These were real crimes.
