Okay, so I know that colleges usually send letters out to alot of different students for various different reasons. Anyway, as sophomores we took the PLAN tests in early fall, which as you should know basically predict how the student should perform on the ACTs. Anyway, somehow colleges get a hold of these scores and they start sending out letters. However, we haven't actually gotten our scores back yet. Nevertheless, I have gotten many, many different letters from colleges, and generally I took most of them with a grain of salt, but there were some pretty big names in there. So I have two questions... One is, if I have such schools like that sending me stuff, what does that say about my PLAN scores? Every letter mentioned my test scores - numbers that even I'm not aware of yet! And, even more importantly, do I have ANY chance at those schools if they did send me something? As long as my extra-currics or transcript are at the same level. Anyway... the National Student Leadership Conference - anybody know anything about it? I got something in the mail about how I've been pre-approved and it looks pretty interesting. My humanities teacher mentioned it last year, about how one of her previous students went and really enjoyed it. It's pretty expensive, but I think I might do it.
I get the same thing from the PSAT... I did really well on the reading (in the 97th percentile) but not as well on the math (only in the 75th percentile) but I'm still getting information from places such as NYU (which has sent me LOTS of stuff, not just little letters), Emory, Duke, George Washington University, and other hard to get into colleges. I honestly wouldn't take too much weight into what they say... I've done some research and even with my grades and all my AP classes I have only a slim chance of getting into NYU, no matter how much stuff they send. I mean sure I'm going to research some of them that have sent me lots of interesting things- like NYU and Miami, but not any more than colleges I was already looking at. It's all a marketing ploy though, and you've got to keep that in mind when judging colleges based on brochures and stuff.
every college sends a bunch of crap to everybody. maybe you did good on the PLAN, but even if not they would probably send you the same shit
