I'll be going on the road this summer and I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on how to keep the gas tank, and my stomach, full. I'll be hittin quite a few festivals this year and some smaller shows. What do some of you do to make money? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

well when i was at OM last year there were some folk that put down a piece of fabric somewhere and sold just about anything, nag champa incence, necklaces, hand made poutches ect... cheap too, they just wanted extra cash for on their way home.... and for food, dried fruit and granola (the hemp kind) is my fave and it doesn't have to be kept in the fridge... i don't drive so i dunno about the gas tank, maybe bring some friends or pick up people that have some cash??.. good luck and have fun!

save save save til summer, pick up some truly unique not-every-hippie-has-one items.
Offer a shop that is having trouble moving something if you can consugn it: you take ot with and give them their part of the money (a tough temptation not to spend it...think carefully and do not take advantage of people.)
pack the car with dehyrated food and nuke it at convenience stores (you'll need to be getting gas or some small something, too)
Carry LOTS of water and a jar for sun tea.
have that car tuned up, fresh oil and keep the tires correctly inflated.
As gas approaches $2 per gallon here, I'm noticing more people at the air pump, too.

Sell food, even if you run out of gas and get stranded you'll never go hungry, and folks at shows always get the munchies. Also, food vendors are usually the last to be hassled by the man. The pecking order (from first to be harassed to last) seems to be nitrous, psychedelics, pot, alcohol, cigarettes, copyrighted materials (like t-shirts), and then finally food. You can start out simple with $1 grilled cheese but get creative, find something that'll catch people's eye, something with a tasty smell that'll waft across the lot.

great ideas. I sold grilled cheeses at last years Bonnaroo, and did alright (covered gas costs) so maybe I'll stick with that. water sells very well too in the right climate. thanks for all your ideas, keep em comin...

    veggie sloppy joes.
Though the few meat vendors I ever see clean up.

I talked to a guy once that said burgers really clean up even though there are a lot of vegetarians. Sell both types. Burgers are better than grilled cheese anyday. They can also be cheaply made.
