I just formated a hard drive and did a clean instal of Windows XP. I guess I must have put the wrong video drivers in there because it looks like crap, so I decide to open the device manager and uninstall the vid drivers. After that it has to reboot, so I go ahead and reboot but it automaticaly detects the video card and automatically goes ahead and reinstalls the same drivers again. Why does it do this? Doesn´t it understand I don´t want those drivers anymore? LoL I can´t seem to configure a generic VGA driver like I could back with Win98. Anybody have any sugestions on how I can get rid of those useless video drivers?
Contact the Manufacturer of your Video Card for Updated drivers, and install those. That will overwrite the Windows XP settings. I'll get ya some more info on Generic drivers as I find it. I went through the same problem, and have the info around here someplace... (My desk is a MESS! But you know what they say. "A clean desk is a sign of a SICK mind!" )
Okay. I've checked into my records on what I did. I'm going to need to know a few things to help you. #1. What make is your machine? (HP,Compaq,Gateway,etc...) #2. What Chipset you have. (The most common that I'm aware of is the 858XX chipset.) #3. The manufacturer of your Graphics card. (PM me if you wish, but others won't learn anything that way.)
Thanks Matt: I don´t have all the info here at work since the computer is at home. But here is what I can tell you. It is a friends´ "El Cheapo" brandless, ghetto built computer. It has an AMD XP1800+ and everything (VGA, LAN, Audio) built-in the motherboard, which is SYNTAX brand (www.syntaxusa.com). As soon as I get home I´ll get the board model number and the chipset. Sorry for the lack of info, it´s just that it really was driving me crazy, even while I was at work and away from the damned machine and I guess I just had to vent. But I would still like to know if there is a way for it not to reload the same drivers I just uninstalled after a reboot.
OK, I'm home. Like I said, it's running an AMD1800XP. The MoBo is a SYNTAX SV266M with everything built in.
Go here: http://www.syntaxgroups.com/support/downloads.php look for 266 VGA drivers. GET and install them. That should solve the problem.
YOU gave me the MAIN link. I just knew where to look and told you. YOU fixed it yourself. See? Learn sumthin new everyday. Huh!
