Last night I had to put my dog to sleep. Buddy had cancer and was very sick.

This morning I feel so upset and heart broken. I keep wishing he'd poke his head up or come see me and let me pet him. He followed me around the house and whenever I went outside. I always had him near me and now he's gone.

I've lost a member of my family. I wish it didn't have to hurt so much. :(

I'm very sorry Peanuts. Pets are so very hard to lose, indeed they are family members. Saying goodbye truly is a heart breaker. :(

I'm really sorry you have to go through that.
In summer 2003, I had to make the decision of whether or not to put my dog to sleep and even though I know it was the right decision, it still breaks my heart when I think about how happy he seemed just moments before going to the vet.. I still miss him terribly.
I know it's probably not gonna make you feel any better, but your dog is doing much better now that he doesn't have to suffer anymore and you'll always have all the happy memories of him.

    Happy thoughts :)

    Thank you dhs.

I thought we were going to get his thyroid checked and maybe change his diet a lil'. I didn't expect this.

One moment I'm fine and the next moment I'm falling apart. I've always had a pet to love and now I don't. I feel like a lil' girl again. This hurts so much.

My boys are dealing better than I am. They told me Buddy is in Heaven with God and Jesus and THEY healed him. (we don't go to church and my boys are 4 & 6.) My boys are incredible.

Thank you Kosmic. I'm sorry you lost your friend too.

Buddy didn't really show signs of being in pain, like wincing or crying. He did have trouble walking up our stairs. We thought it was the lyme disease hurting his joints. Normally we'd get an antibiotic for him and he'd get his pep back. We had NO idea he had cancer.

I stayed with him through it all. I held him and kissed him a 1,000 times.

That's pretty much how it happened with my dog as well. His heart wasn't functioning properly, but he had medicine for that and seemed to be in a good condition. Then one day I took him to the vet for a regular check-up and found out that only 25% of his kidneys were functioning and the next day he had to be put to sleep. :( It was really hard to understand what had actually happened.

Anyway... listen to your boys. They're probably on the ride track. :)

I'm so sorry, I had to have my doggy put to sleep a few years ago, he had cancer too... :( He was obviously in pain, but he seemed so happy on the ride to the vet, then he got so scared once we were there... :( I still miss him.. :(

my dog is still alive and living with my parents, he just turned 15....... and I know eventually he will pass on, but he still seems like a healthy dog, even though he has gotten quite a bit slower.

Peanuts I'm so sorry . :( Losing a pet is so hard. But Peanuts you're a loving, gentle person, and I bet that dog had an amazing life being part of your family and I'm sure he was grateful for all the love you gave him.

Thank you Everyone for your posts and your stories. I appreciate knowing I have friends here that are supportive.

Buddy did have a good life here. He was very much loved, by all of us. He made company laugh when they'd come over. He had the funniest faces and sweetest disposition. He could warm your heart with just a look, that look.

My neighbors have a dog that is 17 years old. 17 years...that just seems incredible to me. Buddy would of been 8 one month from today. He still looked so much like a puppy when he'd be outside throwing the ball in your lap wanting to play. He loved to play ball and walk around in our field. He'd roam through the woods sniffing and if he found it he'd roll in it..deer dung. Made him happy for some reason. lol

I took care of him. I bathed him, gave him his medicine, picked up his Buddy messes, trimmed his nails, cleaned his ears, brushed him, fed him. I'd sit with him every night on the sofa and pet him and tell him how sweet he is. I treated him as if he was my own lil' one. Any time I took care of him he'd be so gentle. Never showed aggression, even cutting his nails.

I'm sorry to be going on and on about him. I feel I need to get this out. It's all part of my healing process I guess.

your words almost make me cry. I have a doggy, too. He is 11 years now and had cancer 2 times. Both times he got well again. But I am so afraid of the day I will lose him forever, too. Let Buddy live on in your heart! And keep him there 4ever.

    Love from here,

    Sabine

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog peanuts. I wish there was something better to say, "I'm sorry" just doesn't seem to cut it. I've lost a few pets in my time, and it hurts just as much as losing a human family member. Maybe even a little more sometimes.

I lost my 13 yr old dog Max last summer. I still feel that hes around the house, even if hes not physically here anymore. I guess it didnt urt as much maybe cause I have another dog who will hopefully give me several more years of fun and enjoyment.

We had to have our dog put down in December, after my dad accidentally backed into her with his truck. She was 13 and was starting to fall apart physically, but it was still a sad way to have her go. Plus, it happened so quick. There was no real time to prepare or say final goodbyes.

In the days following I was more sad than I have ever been in my life, but after about 3-4 days I slowly started to feel better, though I was still sad for a while after that, and I still am whenever I think about it.

I'm sorry to hear of your lose Peanuts, I remember you talking about your dog in another thread :(

I've experienced the same thing as a kid. Our dog jumped 6 stories from a window. I was play fighting with my friends and he thought I was in danger..If your feeling a little better in the future you could treat yourself and your family to a little puppy. It could never replace your dog but it may help take your mind of it :)

Um, not to make a funny in Peanuts' thread, but Lassie was a boy...;)

Don't worry though, I'm sure he'll find a nice cocker spaniel to shack up with.. I'm sorry about your doggy, Peanuts. :(
