I havent ever had one this small,mine is about 15" .. I dont like really BIG screens..... (Thats for movie theaters)
I can just smell those wax dipped capacitors from here. Anybody know about old radios? I've got this beauty, below. It's a 1920's Richardson Super-Het kit radio. Richardson sold it as a kit, as RCA held the patent on the super-heterodyne design...all point to point labelled wiring - put it together, tune it up. Those are original dry cells, dated 1923...one still had 4.5V on it..
I had that same set when I was a kid but with a less glamorous box...same wobbly legs. I fixed it up from another similar one and raided the remote control / motorized tuner out of it. The remote was actually two tuning fork kind of bars that were struck inside the remote...'clink'...the receiver picked up the 20kHz+ tones and discriminated them out to drive the tuner and volume stepper. After a while the ray guns were just about shot, I could only watch it in the dark since the picture was dark.. Then I found a similar one that lasted me through college...
Looking at these pictures, I can remember when we'd rip speakers out of old TVs and put them in our cars as some were 12" or so.
Ah I went and saw an abandoned motel today!! It was 1 floor and had maybe 10 rooms.... All the doors were open and the glass smashed out in most rooms/ceiling falling in in some spots... (floors caving in others) What I found inside was a dream!!! Many CRT sets...... And in room 1 there was a beautiful console set,looked in excellent shape...I wonder if any of it stlll works?? Thats rooms roof is in tact,it hasnt rained inside the room or anything....... I would love to test some of those sets!! I also found a phone book from the 90s and some toys......... A bike was outside standing on its kick stand!!! -- How the hell after all these years is it still standing! I also found a VCR that was torn to shreads (Opened) and I was curious if there were any VHS tapes in there?? There was a basement and I found the stairs but they didnt look stable or I would have gone down....... Quite an interesting day!!
Do you remember the Sony profield monitor, It was used by the BBC for all it's colour grading. Some directors of photography still use them today.
