Trying to Understand

Hi everyone! I am new to this board and I have a few questions about hippies. Okay theres these girls at my school that say to be hippies but there is this also one girl that everyone claims to be hippie. Okay these girls that say to be hippie dress in a punk rock type style they are allways talking about bombing the school and they think really much on there looks. Then there is this other girl that is really quiet that I do not hardly know, but everyone talks about. This girl doesn't care about how she dress I notice that there is also days that she wears the same clothes for two or three days. She never puts her hair up and she is really really beautiful (shes beautiful unlike others that wear tons of makeup) but she seem allways in anouther world. For instance she's allways listening to music and she also walks alone after school. Unlike others I see her helping other people out (I see her also helping out people that have mental problems) if you will ask her to do somthing or share somthing. She will give it to you, or do it for you. I want to understand the diffrence of thoes other girls and this girl?

 

a lot of people try to act like hippies because they think it's cool to act very free, yet their attitude keeps them from truely feeling that way. Hippies are easy to fit in with because a lot of them are so easy going. That's the difference. The girl you were speaking of that lives without concern of beauty and the thoughts of other people has found herself and what she loves to do. These other girls are trying to find themselves. Considering their obsession with beauty, the lifestlye of a hippie is not for them, although they may be experiencing the feeling of WANTING to break free from thier mind set.

They are different and even though the girls who are just dressing up like hippies are posing, it's not really a bad thing.

 

Thanks for your reply! This girl really intrests me alot in her ways. For truth all there is a bunch of people at school that tries to be diffrent (punk, metal, hip hop, goth, ect) and at the end this girl is so simple and more diffrent than anyother. Anouther thing about her I see her also alot riding her bike, and walking down the roads but allways in country like places. I never ever see her walking or riding down town.

I think the quiet one would be the true hippy at heart. The other ones talking about the bombings are such seems violent and bitter and that's not in good spirit. Anyhow I just woke up with a hang over peace in

 

talk to the mama i bet she is a very down to earth person cause the people like that get along with everyone and can relate to alot of situations

The quiet girl has a beautiful soul, guess you could call it a hippy heart.

see i hate that..that is where the word posser comes in...one day some one asked me when did you know you were different..i said i have always been unique and i think that is a plus..why try to be something your not you only live once so you should live it up not by how people see you or how you see yourself you know how you are and thats all that should matter

 

I declare a moratorium on the word 'poseur'. Who gives us the right to judge how pure one's motives are? Especially people who we know so ostensibly. Maybe the quiet girl with the natural beauty carpet-bombs small Latin American countries in her spare time. Do you know her intimately? Do you know the others intimately? Perhaps they talk about bombing the school and afterwards raise money for humanitarian causes. Anyway, I refuse to accept any situation where there is a good and bad guy. The vapid girls and the girl who helps the mentally retarded? How Disney movie counterculture.

Well I've only to become a true hippy a few weeks ago, but that's because my friends converted me. But other people don't uderstand what hippies really are but say they are a hippy. What is this all about?

chances are if you recently "became" hippy, then you could be one of those people who don't understand the real meaning of the name. it's sort of soemthing that builds up until you realize the culture makes you happy and comfortable.

Everyone at my school always tells me I'm not a real hippie and that I'm a poser. A couple kids in my art class really believe me tho thank God....

I hace a feeling these other girls just want to be differen't. They don't "sound" like "hippies" to me but I do not know them. This quite girl you are talking about sounds like a very kind, independent individual. And if you want to find more out about her you should get together with her, befriend her and see what she's all about, she sounds pretty cool to me. The other "punks" sound like people who would annoy the living hell out of me, But thats just me. ask the other girls what their beliefs are on the world or if they would EVER go without makeup or what not lol.

 

The diference is evil and good. bombing a school, that's real hippie like. Helping others definitely a good thing.
