    Self Defense

    With all love rejected,
    Detached from movement,
    Resistance by the trembling,
    Is measured and used.
And as the gentle pine for grace
They watch the furious rages pause afraid,
Struck dumb at no possibility, at cold and determined purpose.

And spent, she saves her grief for dreams.
    Of diving through thick ice
To flow through warm clear depths
Of the river sounds outside at night
While close with love’s touch in bed
Of daughters or sons grasping for eternity.

    And twilight moments of longing
    Begin each irritating day
    Pressing out in vengeful snips
    Toward victims consciously
    clinging to blue’s fables.
The false shades luring the weak,
The one in five who've drowned.

Until all hues are faded, I would have it so.
Until our dreams are realized and what we do not know.
