Speaking of not getting bands, I never got Dave Mathews. I remember some gd lot kids were talking about going on Dave Mathews tour in '95 so I checked him out. I thought he sucked then and he hasn't got better.
And while I agree with wayfaringstranger (don't use that in your sig :) ), that Trey has had better days, I have no clue what he is doing kickin it with Dave Mathews. Trey is becoming more and more like Eric Clapton, both in looks and musicianship. But I still think he is quite possibly the best musician alive.

Right now Keller is probably at the top of my list for most of the jambands and jammans out there. He seems to have keep it together nicely and is able to work with SCI if it calls for it... all of that stuff...

Sure, Phish will be missed... I liked them, but I like their original stuff more than a lot of their covers, but they could really put fun into a lot of songs. Sadly, out of all the people I've seen, I never made it to see Phish as Hampton Coliseum was always getting packed every time... and oddly, they seemed to get the most response there... Hampton Comes Alive and all of that...

A few problems with your statement. You said "u.m is not a phish rip off " and right after you say "they took the good and the bad from phish" that totally makes it sound like a rip off. I don't think u.m. is a phish rip off, I think they play with less feeling than phish. They're techinicly proficient but man they just sound like they are trying way to hard and not exploring enough for me.

    but thats just my .02

well i'm sure u.m in the early days played alot of phish tunes in the garage like every other new jamband thats was what i meant is they were inspired by phish like so many other jambands today and as far as feeling i guess its in the eye of the beholder i see u.m alot being from the midwest and i get a good feeling at every show but thats me....the dudes throw it down at all the shows i've seen them do

you know I saw UM open for phil last month and Phil came out and played franklins with the umph boys. I LOVE PHIL but I was bummed to see him come out cause the bass player was my favorite musician in umph.

And I know this has nothing to do with musical abillity but the umph dudes look like dorky frat boys and that bugged alittle.

And is their lead guitar player epileptic??? Wierd stage moves

that was a great show from what i heard of it and yup they look like every day midwest college dudes and thats where it all begain was at norte dame but thats who they are and so they go with it ...they kinda look like just good kids from my hometown or yours to me ..and ive meet all of them a few times they are really cool down to earth guys but thats my take... im in the midwest and in mich (a few of u.m are from here too)at that so u.m is like our local bar band i've seen em in bars that only 60 peeps were their in 99 kinda like my first phish show in 93 only 50 peeps there now like phish they are sellin out all over its just the same hill they climb not the same song so who knows where they are headed but its up for sure [IMG]

i never meant to imply that they were a rip off of phish, but i think they're light show is kindof, but phish perfecticted the light show, that was the 5th member. i have noticed some borrowed phrasing from trey's compositions, but he borrowed alot from other people and thats fine, i borrow alot too when i play, sometimes i straight rip off an old-time melody, or a jerry melody in a completely different song. theres nothing wrong with that. i guess im just alil dissapointed to see that the circus is gonna join up with a band that i really dont dig on, i managed to get in to all but 1 phish show, and all but 1 deadshow i went to, and both times the midshow lot scene was down right dirty and dangerous, and im one of those throwback peace and love hippies, i dont care for pharmies or gangsta music. maybe the circus is taking a different direction then me, maybe im takin a different direction then it.
You cant help but notice the scene getting ghetto. Ive lived in ghettos across the country, i was into breakdancin and hiphop in the 80's, but the hippy ghetto thing just dosent appeal to me. It was one of the main reasons I left Phish tour for SCI in 98. but then during Hiatus, the ghetto circus hopped on there, and it seemed like the music was suffering there too. I think there really is truth to musicians pickin up on the audience vibe. I guess i miss those brief glimpses i got (while sober) of what could be. There really isnt a big jamband i can go to to get that. I do love festivals, and seeing keller and YMSB and local acts, but im yearnin for a full show one band, 4 hours. I wish i could get on the UM bandwagon, but it just dont speak to me.
