here's what happened to me yesterday. try to be patient and read this whole thing, as it was quite an epic quest from start to finish, though i dont know how well i can write it out. This here is my statement of outrage with virgin megastore, and my attempt to thwart their nazi-esque efforts to oppress certain people my friend decided to drive up to uconn to pick me up to go to boston to see jack johnson. he would be in virgin records and was performing there at 1pm to promote his new album. he would be doing an autograph signing right after the show, but the kicker is that only the 250 ppl with yellow wristbands could get to meet him and have something signed. the way you got a wrist band was you had to be one of the first 250 ppl to buy JJ's new album from the store, starting at a certain time. given that i live quite a distance from boston, this was impossible for me and my friend. but they said we could still see the show without a wristband, we just needed to buy his album and use that as the ticket so we bust our asses to get there right when the store opens. pretty soon a line starts forming outside the building, and let me tell you it was COOOOOLLLLLD outside, and very windy. boston winters are a bitch and a half. the deal was, they were gonna clear out the store and at 1pm jack would perform and everyone would be allowed in. wristband ppl first, then the rest of us with CD's. we waited outside for 2 hours on an overpass in the freezing, freezing wind for this thing. finally, they started letting the wrist band ppl in, but not us. after awhile, they decided to be kind and let us into their warm store. there were maybe 300 ppl there, maybe hald had wrist bands, and we were all crowded into the corner of the ground floor. jack came out, luckily i could see him cus im tall, but most couldnt see him cus the idiots didnt build a higher stage for him, and JJ decided to sit instead of stand. he was at ground level basically sitting in a chair, only the ppl in the front could really see him. this didnt bug me that much. what followed did he played his set for an hour, i was unimpressed but whatever, he went upstairs to the 3rd floor cafe to sign autographs. the virgin staff took this time to tell us that only the bracelet people would be let up to meet him. we knew this already, but we didnt really believe it, thinking jack is a chill guy and he will make sure to sign us. but they wouldnt even let us up to the 2nd floor. only 175 of the 250 wristband people even showed up, and there were maybe 75 ppl without wristbands who were waiting eagerly to be let upstairs. it would make sense to let us up. nope. the crowd was getting restless, and finally one of the nazis blocking the escalator said we could go up. so 75 ppl rushed to the second floor, only to be stopped by the second escalator by another nazi. apparently there was a miscommunication. we were only allowed to the second floor to buy shit, not to get to the 3rd. we waited here, all of us, for about an hour, yelling at the nazi man and staring him down. now, you must understand what we all had been through at this point. we had nearly died of hypothermia standing outside waiting for them to open the doors to see this guy. we endured a concert in which we couldnt even see JJ. be bought his silly little album. we had waited hours to meet our musical hero, who was meer feet away. let us upstairs, well yelled! no, only wristband people allowed. they said that it wasnt their fault, they had a contract signed with the record label that said only the wristband ppl could get up. this sounded like a lie. it was at this point that my friend noticed something very interesting. we were standing right next to the freaking elevator. i hit the button and we waited. the door opened, and we got in. i totally expected the nazi to come yelling and throw us out, but he didnt. i also expected everyone else to rush the elevator, ruining the plot. but no. no one seemed to notice. we took the elevator up to the 3rd floor and were free! after waiting on line for over an hour, we finally got to meet mr. johnson. i gave him a big bear hug, and told him about how we had to sneak in. all he could do was weakly respond "im glad you snuck in" and turn his attention to the next person. he wasnt enjoying this experience very much at this point, we probably had an absurd ticket on the car, but that didnt matter. we had wasted a day and spent a lot of money to meet someone who doesnt care about us, but that didnt matter. all that mattered to me was finding the head nazi and yelling in his face that we had snuck in and FUCK YOU! so i took the elevator down, past the guy who was blocking it. and would you believe it, my fellow non-wristbandites were still waiting. i wasnt to start a riot. i wanted blood. i began to yell that jack WILL meet you if you sneak in, i told them all how to do it, i encouraged them, and pulled down my sleeve to show the nazi that i had no band. he began talking into his radio. on my way out, the head nazi brushed past me with two of his goons, but i turned away so he wouldnt see me. i could hear him yelling into his radio my description and the description of my friend. they were after us! we bolted out of the virgin megastore, never to return again. but atleast we met jack
so let me get this straight.... your mad at virgin because u werent allowed to break rules that were SET OUT before u even decided to go to the store? your surpised that jack johnson whoever the fuck that is was not "personal" with somone he has never met/will never give a fuck about? and your trying to compare the staff to Nazi's because of this? hahahah fuck some of the "hippy's" on this forum are just fucking plain stupid. Virgin, although a massive corperation is a very good company for taking smaller/underground bands and artists and selling their music, while smaller chains wouldnt even touch them. Virgin gets my respect, and i doubt they need yours.
