I did visit the house in Amsterdam they lived in... wow! Amazingly tiny inside up there behind the bookcase.
Currently, I'm reading my way thru the Instrument Pilot Oral Exam Guide! I'm betting NOBODY else here is reading THAT one LOL
Helen Keller traveled to 39 different countries, but I believe the house was in Amsterdam, New York. Article from the New York Amsterdam News reporting Helen Keller will be guest at Debutante Ball January 20, 1951
I am currently reading Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood, after watching a Canadian miniseries on Netflix based on the book. It is an incredible story, I don't think I will get all I need to out of it through one read-through alone.
It's good to read a book with deep meanings and find it necessary to go and read it again... and perhaps again!
If I may get philosophical, it is about ordinary people, not mentally ill, having hallucinations due to blindness, deafness, fatigue, brain damage, sensory deprivation and such. Audio, visual, odors, etc. From what I gather so far the brain, or mind, can generate it's own reality when it is deprived of input. Which makes me wonder if the entire world as we experience it is merely collective hallucination.
I just dicovered a book on the internet called Amusing Ourselves to Death. I'd like to get a copy. Has anyone here read it?
Yes! Had to write a paper on it during my undergrad studies…reviewing over it again along with other books.
the adventures of huckleberry finn & the Anarchy Comics I think issue #3 is my favorite. I've only read that one 200 times!
i am currently reading ciaphas cain: for the emperor its such a good book witty, dark very 40k. i love it but it has one little thing that irks me. the author physical descriptions of women can feel kind of shallow and creepy. so many good books ruined by this!
