I've taken the pill, which proved to be worthwhile. There were no drastic effects, or at least none that I noticed. I'd say to play it safe and that she should use go on the pill in order to assure no pregnancies.

yasmin's the only one that doesn't make me gain weight or act like an emotional wreck my body has a very hard time handeling birth control. don't push her into it it's not your guy's decision it's hers solely hers.

There's a lot of different kinds of birth control, and the side effects of depend on the strength of the hormones inside the pills. For example, Alesse has a low amount of hormones, where as Marvalon has a higher dose of hormones. So if she went on something like Alesse (or Yasmin or Diane) the side effects like weight gain and hormonal imbalance would probably be small, and would rectify itself over time. Higher dose pills = higher weight gain and higher emotional unbalance, and longer to rectify. Now I'm not a doctor but I've been on two different kinds of birth control pills, and they were different hormonal levels, and this ^^^^^ is what I found.

The Pill is the best! I have been taking Marvelon 28 for 3 years now and I've had no problems. It made my period supper predictable, and made my PMS less severe. I've never had any negative effects. I hate using condoms so the pill is ideal when your in a monogomous relationship and you don't have to worry about STD's. Plus your boyfriend gets to blow his load inside of you instead of pulling out. Also, sex can last longer cuz there is nothing (ie:condoms) in the way...I say use the pill...just be sure to take it at about the same time everyday and DON'T forget a day!!...
    goodluck with your decision!!

I use the ortho evra patch, the upside is you dont have to remember to take a pill at the exact same time everyday (you just change the patch every 7 days). The downside is patch tends to look a bit dirty around the edges for a while because of all the sticky stuff that sorta leaks out on the edges. I've used the pill before and it's never failed me. I'm gonna try the patch for now since I have a year worth of prescription for it.

Oh another plus of using patch/ pills, my breasts got bigger.

I would say at least have her ask her doc about the patch, unless she has an amazingly good memory. Back when I was on the pill, I would forget it pretty often. But I didn't have any sideaffects except for a lighter, shorter period and no more backaches! I was on trycyclen.

nowadays, the pill has a lot fewer side effects than it used to. like super_grrl said above, you can get ones with low doses of hormones and the side effects will be minimal. just ask your doctor and (s)he should be able to help you out.
i've taken it and i didn't notice any big differences with weight gain or mood swings or anything, but i was taking a low dose one.

anyway yeah, just talk to your doctor. and she has to make sure she takes it on time every day. :)

    peace,
    sophia

I use Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and I have been for a year now... I would recommend it for EVERYONE! When I first started taking the pill I ws very worried about gaining a lot of weight becuase I had seen other people gain weight but because it is a low-hormone pill I didnt. I actually ended up losing weight! And even if your girlfriend did gain weight it probably wouldnt be more than 5 or 10 lbs and thats a LOOOOOOT less than if she were to get pregnant, right?!?

i wish they made one for men, dammit. i'm so tired of having all of the contraceptive burden shoved on me. grrr! me, i can't be on the pill. it fucks with my system too much, even the lower-dosage. to tell the truth, me and dario don't have sex that often. we, on average, make love about once a month. i actually like it that way because when we DO make love, it's very, VERY special, and lots of fun. we're really affectionate and cuddly and flirty together all the time, and we are both chronic masterbators, so we don't really NEED to fuck that often. we are just VERY careful when we do. VERRRRRRRRRRRRRRY careful. we try to practice mindfullness when we're doin' it...heehee

i didn't use any of those pills :D and i'm still ok by now. only if you really know how to get away with it. i like it just natural, but if you and your girl aren't sure about how to get it correctly, i suggest her to take the pills instead of patch or any other kinda things.

i dont have any opinion on the pill, because i havent taken it... but i would like to say.. kudos to you and your girlfriend for taking the inititive (sp?) to get birth control.. i think (if it was possible.... if it didnt harm kids and all of that) that a mom could give kids birth control SUPER SUPER early... like 3rd grade... i could crush it up and put it in their dinner...lol... cause these days, you cant be TOO careful.. but seriously.. THANK YOU
