If I get a call from a number I don't recognize I let it go to voicemail.

If it's important they will leave a message.

    They never do.

    1. If you get a text message with a hyperlink, just delete it straight away.
    2. If you are sending money by internet transfer, first send a small odd amount and only send the balance after you have phoned them up to confirm they have received the first payment.

    3. EDIT. I never answer a phone call from private number.

And when the bank send you a contactless debit or credit card, cut a 6mm "V" at the centre of the top edge to break the inductance loop, then use the chip and pin function.

Sorry I can't make more of a commitment. I just won the Nigerian lottery. Need to send $100 to get my prize.

Scams are getting more sophisticated every year, and it’s honestly exhausting trying to stay ahead of them. One thing that helps is paying attention to common scam alerts and learning the patterns scammers use. If something feels rushed or too good to be true, that’s usually the first red flag. I’ve learned to double-check websites and never click suspicious links. It also helps to keep conversations documented in case you need proof later. Trusting your instincts goes a long way in avoiding trouble.
