the premade hemp jewlery in stores? when you make ur own jelwery it gets softer as u wear it... after it goes under the shower and such.
i start it looped at one end, then tie a knot on the other finished end, and then just tie that around the loop. they stay tied on till they fall off, no extra beads to buy. as they get softer, they bind together more. kinda basic and obvious, i guess. it's also possible to make things seamless, although it's complicated. i have no idea how to explain it, though. like someone else said, swimming and showering will soften the hemp up. sometimes older hemp will start to get funky as it softens. like a tough reside from being in constant contact with your skin. soap is a good cure for this. it also gets rid of the smell that starts to come with it. sometimes i'll put essential oil on my hemp cause the funk gets bad. like in the summer when it collects a lot of sweat.
i really like the Klutz book collection. its really easy to understand and they have lots of pics... plus it comes w/ hemp and beads to get you started. i got mine at barnes and noble. (they have lots of other crafts too)
To really get alot of broad information you have to go outside the world of Hemp. The type of weaving that makes hemp jewelry is known as Macrame(sp?). Once you start looking for that you are going to tap into a world of information. Course, most of it will make no reference to hemp though.
Good hemp can be tied to be soft with no need of "breaking in". If you're using shit hemp, then well, you're using shit hemp and your necklace well be worse.
my friend who makes alot of different jewelry uses good hemp, although its kind of expensive, but you can still tell the difference between a worn in bracelet or necklace and a new one.
Right, but this hemp I've got is like overly stiff or something. I think it's just low quality stuff.
maybe, is it the really thick stuff? like the 3.0 mm cuz i just got some and its a lot stiffer than the smaller twine. I think the larger is meant to be coarser.
