So I really don't like living in the U.S. these days. All I've ever wanted to do since I was a little pup was to live in the woods in a very primative, almost hermetic kind of way. I want to drop out of society and live off the land and in balance and harmony with my environment. This society is too full of poisons and hindering energies that weigh me down and eat at my soul. Is there a place that I can live in the woods freely as I choose? All I've ever wanted is just to live the life of the hermit in a way... to drop out and to be one with nature. Basically I want to live like a Native American without worrying about taxes, jobs, money, and all the other bullshit that keeps me down all the time. Is there such a place? Thanks to any who respond.

Yeah there are so many places the one you're looking for. Many are on the web... If all else fails you could start your own community! Move to a rural area and go for it!

I honestly believe, with all the changes Earth is about to go throug, we will have to go back to that system of living. For most who are at peace with themselves this won't be a problem.....
    Paz!

did i write that???? i dont know how many times i said the exact same thing, word 4 word, its really unbelivible. we must have been kinsmen in a past life. well anyways brother, im getting ready to take some money, after this semester, and do the exact same thing, i just have the same questions. i wanna do some reasearch on the homestead act, and see what states still have that in effect, that way, i could homestead some land, then it will be legally mine, so i dont have 2 worry, about, some forrestry officers finding me out in the boonies, u know. im thinking about the northwest, cause ithe the least populated, and least developed in the u.s. but, if u need a fellow kinsmen 4 the adventure, write me back, and we can talk about options and plan things,

    you're like me then = )
a lot of parts of asia would be suitable - its quite an easy country to get by in in terms of not having to bother with taxes etc... but there are problems in those countries...

Louiedawg420, sounds like you're basically on the same page as me man. I'm in school right now, but I can't keep doing the same shit like this every damn day of my life. I've basically come to the realization that I can't live in a society where I'm processed through some impersonal systematic life-style structure that we've all been trained to desire and adopt as the American Dream. I mean, right now I'm like Plato's hypothetical "people in the cave" staring at shadows on a wall. Everyone is so content to do the same thing without really ever venturing out of line to see the rest of the world for what it is. All we're supposed to do is go to school, get a job, start a family, and worship Jesus on Sunday and back to work Monday. When we're not working or taking care of our families, then that time will be consumed by mediocre hobbies and a depressed desire to somehow get out of the system, but if we ever try to get out in a reasonable way, then we'll be punished and sent to jail or fined. Why the hell does that happen? Because we're not contributing dollars to the people/corporations in charge. Fuck that!

Man, if you're really serious about getting out of the system and finding somewhere new, then I'm more than happy to have you come along. I'm not gonna lie and say that I wanna start some drug free hippy commune where everything is gonna be all nice and pure, but I do want to keep things as natural and nature-based as possible. Naturally, bud will be allowed! :) I don't really want to have any kinda set religion or communal doctrine or anything tho... I just want people to be themselves and live in a democratic/socialist kinda way... that way we're all able to discuss and evaluate things without leadership other than ourselves. We make the rules as equals and live according to our own codes, whatever they might be. Anyways, if my philosophical rambling hasn't scared you off yet, holla at me online at lostblackdog@yahoo.com or on AIM as Choctaw Shiner. Peace

Friends, you are not alone... far from it. I have been searching for these things of which you speak for several years. The unfortunate truth is that most communities that I have found to date are chistian-based (I am a pagan) or do not allow weed or alcohol, or electricity (even that made by me) or technology (no laptops or other devices) or some combination of one or more of them. It's sad. All I seek is a community of cooperation with zero environmental impact.

Looks like I'll have to build one...

One thing that many need to remember is that the bylaws of ANY community may not encourage people to break the law - iffn you don't want said gov. to be on you like they love to be.... so while illegal substances are not allowed - what private individuals do has always been up to the individual - and I hope you can See the different shades of grey as we all try to keep the fucking interfering goverment at bay.

And there are many communities out there that attempt to coexist in a balanced fashion .... and ye harm none....

I'm right there with you...too bad many communities with these viewpoints expect you to have lots of $$ before they consider you for a member.

There are many who do Not expect only the wealthy class to partake... even as there are many who do not advertise.
All the community attempts within this forum do not demand up front money - that does not mean that there is not a need for the green stored energy - far from that - one of the main challenges for any community IS money - the lack of it.
The other side of the coin is that there Are many freeloaders who want to drop out of society and have the do nothing but party life of the "hippies" .... an in community the one sure thing is that there is more than enough work to keep all occupied 24/7 if they but could do it. For any who start community the effort is nothing short of heroic proportions - many go it the first years alone because people need to see more to commit themselves. So many want a together scene already and are not ready for the hardship and Work, work, work. Any resources go to the necessary tools and the equipment to make it come together, but even more for the land and the materials used to build - and nowadays the lumber costs are outrageous.

Most who are working on putting community together have put all their efforts and accumulated green energy toard manifesting their dream - and it Is extremely impotant that the working beginning group be committed to giving it their all to make it happen. After the community is a working proposition it becomes a whole different ball of wax - and often you find the founders going on to put together another and looking for those rare people of likemind walking their inner visions.

freedom is just another word for taking Self responsibly... O yeah
    Blessings along your Way

O and another note about illegal drugs. The individual who jeapadizes the community by bringing in drugs - whether the community looks aside or not, is It if they are popped. The only way acommunity keeps what they've worked so hard to build is to claim that person is disobeying the bylaws and ejection will be considered if not immediately acted on. Not pretty, and some do not go that far; but as a community, if drugs are condoned, the feds will be there to close you down and all land and work will be forfiet and sent off to auction land with the proceeds going into the federal drug enforcement program - not a penny for those "in collusion"

I have looked into this for a loooong time. Yes, it is true, be very skeptical. I think the most honest effort that is going on right now ( that *I* know of) is in Chico, CA

    www.co-operativeeffort.com

This one is just starting and I believe still looking for members, they seem really cool and just looking to live cooperatively in nature and get along without a belief structure or any irrational rules. They do suggest you have some $$ stashed away for *yourself* in the case that you weren't happy there and wanted to move on.

i would suggest going without toilet paper for a few weeks first to see if thats realy what you want ;),, and no mater what type of society you live in you cant avoid responsibilty, you will simply be trading one set of worrys for another

Yo, louiedawg! Sorry I haven't been online bro! I got your pm and email today, and while I probably won't have time to respond, I'm hopin this'll do the trick! I'm kinda on spring break back home right now, and internet access is pretty sketchy here most of the time. If I get lucky and have a few, then I'll holla back at ya, but if not, hopefully you'll get this. Hang in there bro, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

For all you other folks, thanks a lot for coming on here and showing me some of these sites. I'm kinda like the dude who posted before, talking about being pagan here, and it seems that a large majority of the places I've looked at are Christ-centered. Not that I'm against Christians or any religion for that matter, but I prefer to let people wander down whatever spiritual path they want, and if people want electricity and technology, hey, that's your thing man. I'm not against that aspect at all seeing as it's not something that everyone *has* to take advantage of if they don't want to. Terrance McKenna did a whole lot of awesome work, in my own humble opinion, on bridging the gap between artificial and created intelligence via technology and machines. A mechanical conciousness seems like it could be worth investigating, and who am I to hinder someone from living life without those which they are passionate about, whether it's a laptop or a puppy? I would personally prefer to kind of break away from technology as a general part of my communal existence, but I can't say I would never wish to look back or communicate with those who have molded me throughout my journey. Technology can be very beneficial in such a light, so come along and let's see what all we can find out there!

    Thanks!

I too am looking for a good communal environment. If there is anyone out there who would like to join me in the search, I'm at ptrckmccarty@yahoo.com. I am a 20-year school teacher who got laid off. I am not at all ideological, kind of a Krishnamurti sort of guy. I also have a 50-lb black lab named Twigs. Sorry. I really would like to find a place to settle in. I certainly know how to teach, write, edit, and do whatever is required. However, I am rather new to this and don't know how to go about it. Brother Patrick, this is the second post in which you've apologised for having a black lab named Twigs; May I ask why? I mean, I have an overweight cat named Jake and I make no apologies for his cathood nor his weight issue...
