I thought -1 was the lack of 2. Zero is the lack of 1.

    ???

[edit]Oh nvm, he was subtracting from zero, I was subtracting from 1.

Geez, I feel like I'm in elementary math again, freaking counting on my fingers and getting lost.[/edit]

Well, if the soul has weight, that means it's a physical entity. Where is it kept? What does it look like? How come no one has found it?

More likely it was just the air being expelled from the lungs (yes, air has weight). It might be the shit and piss as musicman said.

person non grata not sure whome that was aimed at..

Anyways It was just an idea. I had not posted it as a fact but as an idea. I doubt the soul has weight. I do believe that when we die there is seperation of soul entity from body itself. And yes you can achieve this. There are ways to achieve out of body experiences.

You may call me PNG, no probs, that site was aimed for questions about afterlife. Forums on that particular website will be able to give you a broader view about the issues about your soul.

    I quote Dr. Dememto:

"...either way, it ends the same.
Hard to beat the living game.
Might as well enjoy it while you lose."

Besides, someone already pointed that out in the first few posts. I hate when people dead-scan posts and then post.

That sucks Persona. I never understood suicide, but I guess that's why I've never tried it. I've never even really been depressed in any real sense of the word in my 19 years of life on this planet. I guess it's just a wife, and the lack of money, a bitching boss(es) and bitching children... that'd probably fry my brain out too. Even if you did want to die,... why not spend a bunch of cash on 4 or 5 eight balls, some acid, some valium and some booze, and die on a bender in southern California or some place tropical? That'd be how I'd do it. Shooting yourself is so boring.

I've thought the same thing. If you think you have nothing left in life and want to kill yourself, that means you have NOTHING to lose. Leave your home, go somewhere else. Do some drugs, have some sex, join a monestary, do whatever the fuck you want. At that point in your life, nothing matters, right? You have ultimate freedom (like the homeless, for that matter). I don't understand it. Suicidal folks have the WHOLE GODDAM WORLD open to them, and they just shoot their brains out? Fools!

i dont profess to know what death is like or what is on the "other side" but i think that the the purpose of life is to succeed or get to the top or get anywhere. I believe that we are meant to try and will ultimately fail, and possibly achieve enlightenment and purpose along the way. If you wanna do some drugs, join a commune or have sex along the way then all the more power to you. If you want to die, then just wait for a coupla years, then go back to thinkin about it.

Wow, i read through most of this post, some very interesting input you all have.

I think the thought of suicide in this sense (nothing to live for. etc.) just evolves from too much negative thinking and feeds off that. Having a bad mindset and negative thinking cant be too good. Nothing happening after life is just ONE option. There are abolsutely infinite possibilities of what can happen afterlife, why think of just one and be bummed? And if there is that one possibility that nothing will happen after this life then why get so negative over it. If so, this will happen to everyone and everything so take life as it comes, ya know.

  19. I think the entire purpose of human existence is to continue itself, every behaviour in some way or another relates to either keeping your genetic material going or being remembered, The betrayl of this purpose (thoughts of and attempts of suicide) weaken the very purpose that makes life worth living, and in such in repetition erodes a need\want\desire to continue life, in turn creating more repetitions (oh I know the phrase vicious cycle is ever so cliche' but) I person ally am interested in the concept of death, I have a great level of certainty in my faith (not a religion, religion means search for god) and am okay with the fact that some day I'm going to die, I'd just like to do a few hedonistic , and perhaps fun things before I go, also this may be my last shot to do certain things (enjoy the colour red for example) Dude Take the buffet of life gormandize on it and reach your eternal fate old and experienced, having enjoyed all the things that you can have, I';m certain you haven't done that by now, read some good books, watch some good movies, eat some really good itallian food, life is full of things to be done, it is worth it, if only for what you contribute to the continuing "racial memory" (I suppose speceial {as in species} is a better word but that is the term I heard in the past so I used it, if someone has a better term please correct me) Plus if you really enjoy life you'll have good stories, maybe you can write some down, or record them in some other fashion and gain immortality in that fashion.

I've read 4 pages on this thread and that's enough for now. By the way my spelling sucks so feel free to correct it.

What I'm going to post is opinion based and should be considered as only another look at what's being said here. I do not expect you to understand nevermind accept what I will post as right, it may at least give someone out there something more logical to relate with then what I've read so far.

Something that almost everyone thinks about at some point, "except for maybe a couple of retarded people (I can not say I understand how the retarded mind works)" is death or suicide. But both are not the same. Death is simply the ending of life and does not carry and explanation of how it happened. Sure there could be a story behind it, but when we talk about it, it's the subject itself that makes us think about it. Suicide on the other hand is a mix of things.

Suicide is the result of a weak mind, or a weakened mind weather drug induced or the person's perception of life being an unbarable torcher. Either way you look at it the mind of the person acting out suicidal thoughts or idea's is not straight "up to par". These are the people that kill those around them, then themselves, or just themselves leaving those left behind in a permanent missery of wonder, or they kill those around them but when it comes time for their turn they have a sudden change of mind. As well you can not dispute that drugs cause suicide, maybe not to a large enough degree for it to be given a commity to "take care" of, but simply said drugs distort the perception of life to the user. Suicide is not a question of "fast forward" to the next life. Suicide is a question of support, support to the person commiting it, or even self support from the mind for the person seriously thinking of commiting it. Some people reason things out, others don't have the capacity and / or the resources of loved one's or likable one's around them. To reason suicide as an option for those simply questioning the reason for existance... well then you have alot of growing to do.

    Religion:
Someone had mentioned that it's a sin to commit suicide... well thanks for pointing that out, but who cares if it's a sin. Then again this just further supports the fact that religions are a cruch for the weak to begin with.

    Math:
    -1 + 1 = 0 Great you just passed kindergarden.
To think that you could compute life and or death in any sort of simple mathimatical sceme is a really good laugh. It makes me think that maybe there is an absolute answer for PI after all. Then again for the time being with our science where it is I know better. Life is chaos. This does not mean that we're all running around wildly chopping each others limbs off, (although in some places humans still do that). What that means is that there is no equation to how life works, either because it does not exist or it is beyond our scope of consiousness. Although your equation has a point it is a pointless statement.

Mr spelling B winner class of 2005, great to see your a perfectionist. But thinking of someone as a lazy asshole for making some spelling mistakes... your either not wacking off enough or your wacking off to much. Seeing as most perfectionist's or "wanna be" perfectionist's clash with others over time it's hard for me to think you've had a relationship last you for longer then 2 years tops, 2 years being very very generous. But hey there are girls out there that don't know better. Maybe daddy and mommy made lots of money and that's the draw towards you to have someone stay with you the full 2 years, that and you got yourself a nicely bought education. Other wise I'ld say you need some guidance. I can help, and guess what I'm cheap, I'll do it simply to know that life is a little easier / clearer for you.

No one has mentioned why the thought of death or suicide comes up in our minds. Someone had said that it is our nature to question things like death, but there is no indication as to why we question this. Rightly so, like the universe our minds although as logical as can be in the forfront are completly chaotic in the rears, "sub consious". But then the jester guy made a good point when the spaz said something like, "I GOT OVER THINKING THAT WHEN I WAS 15" jester guy shot back with something very important to what I'm getting at. As well I'll have to use a "something like" here because I don't have the time to quote right now. Either way it was something like "MAYBE I THOUGHT OF IT WHEN I WAS 13 BUT PUT IT ASIDE AND AM ONLY NOW THINKING OF IT AGAIN HOPING TO FIND OUT THE THOUGHTS OF OTHERS".

    Keep that in mind.
Have you ever wondered why you remember somethings with ease and others just don't come back to mind..
You could go for a day at the beach or a pool if a beach is not around, you can tell me the dives you did the big belly flop you saw.. but you couldn't tell me the eye color of the life gaurd, or what pair of shoes your friend wore. At the time the events are taking place they are unnessessary questions to ask because your mind is to busy storing and computing the more exciting things around you. Sure if you were hitting on the life gaurd and know her / his eye color then fine "you got me there" but take the point as it is, a point, not the law.
    Darker side:
Don't answer these publicly please, I feel others here would simply pick you apart and that's not my goal here.
Have you ever been beaten by a loved one, do you have something physically or mentally wrong with you, did you get diagnosed with a disease that isn't curable... To those that could answer no to anything so harsh as that let me explain something to you. If you go threw something so tramatic in life as being beaten by a parent or a lover you never completly recover from it. You get over it, but there are flash backs which stir feelings. Regret, pain, sadness. These things will always be with you, because there will never be an absolute answer to why it happened, why the person is that way, why you were the one there at that time and place.

The fact that you don't have an absolute answer means that the thoughts and memories of what took place lingure in the back of your mind stored in memory, because for some reason the human mind has an increadible time letting go of the unexplainable. Such is the same with people questioning death, suicide, or existance. With no logical or appropriate answer it settles in the back of your mind until the next time you think of it. Sometimes it's sparked into the mind by an event around you, other times it can simply jump out at you when your simply drifting your mind threw space relaxing, or doing completly redundant work for a living.

The fact that you do not have a grasp on suicide and put weight up against existance after death tells me you don't know who you want to be yet. We all know who we are, but not all of us find who we want to be.

I could converse to you, meaning of life, death, politic's, religion, ancient civilizations, weather, whatever you may be looking for. Remember that I'll only share my opinions, what you do in reply to that is your move. As well I realize that as sound / solid as my opinions are to myself, I am ever growing although I've pretty much peaked out for the next decade or Until I have children.

    I have no god.
