You are not alone in that experience. A former employee managed to snag some mail from the desk and used it to get a credit card. Then rang up quite the bill! Seems he disappeared... it is a vast desert around Las Vegas - or it was back then.
Most real "hackers" have very little interest in us........................mostly scammers who try. Just be aware and carefull who you give your (rl)data.........be it legal(goverment) or illegal(?). Use your brain and dont be naive...............wenn it comes to the interwebz......lol. Mzzls
Interesting video, reminds me videos like this: every time i watch something like this i want to move off the grid to enjoy nature and stop using my phone stressing me out.
I have been active on the internet for 20+ years as a gamer/user.......how it changed is very unhealthy/scary,imo. It is(was) a beautiful source of information/interaction but..............if that gets clouded, what information/people are wrong/right? People/youth get bombarded wich sooo much bs/info/news/ect.. Live is still outside in the end..........no electricity,no interwebz.
My sister sent me a message that she had received a vile blackmail email demanding thousands of dollars or they would show my employer a video of me m*********g. Not sure how they would do that as I have not worked for 3 years. One thing you can do is to untick the box for Remote Assistance. If you think your computer has picked up something, check in the program files for any recently added files.
This is what I do to avoid being scammed. For everyday purchases, I use a pre-paid Mastercard from Australia Post. Cost $6.95 but it saves great long bank statements. I only keep $200 in at a time just on case I lose it. I have my Paypal linked to it. I keep the card in a dedicated money belt attached with a length of 3/16" nylon cord. I drilled a hole in the corner and put a dab of glue over the knot. I don't see things in terms of HF vs FB. Two different websites. I cannot see how browsing the marketplace on FB is any worse than browsing E-bay, Gumtree, the Trading Post or any other classified advertising be it in print or online. The video claims that FB re-programs your mind. I would say that of major newspapers. I get involved in a few discussions on FB. I don't scroll the feed most of the time.
I have never been hacked but to be on the safe side, I have very little money in my current account which I use to pay essential bills. It is also the account attached to my debit card. I have no credit card so a potential hacker is going to be rather disappointed!
I bank online, have to go through some rigmarole first but it keeps it secure, no FB , Twitter, or none of that, just not interested.
To avoid going off topic I have stared a new thread on Jaron Lanier position on social media.Jaron Lanier in social media.
1 thing i know is dont click links unless tottaly trusted they can do things like get your ip or use key loggers or get you to sign into fake versions of a website
Email links are probably the easiest and most successful hacks of individuals. If you use online banking or shopping, only use your most trusted device, often a PC, or Mac. Don't login to same account from multiple devices. This automatically lowers the chance of being compromised. Also realize your government can view all your activities on all your devices, you can't hide. None of the Jan 6 defendents could. Before you login to a website, check the url and that it shows it's a secure connection.
Smartphones...................*sigh*.............interwebz..............society. They already have your data.................whoever "they" is.......... Mzzls
Yes, but it's about liability shift which means the bank will take the hit if its app is breached. And they can manage lots of ways to split the system behind the scenes so whilst it looks like one system, it's data is stored in many places.
there is no such thing as a safe computer, from the minute its turned on the risk starts going up, Ive used linux, live distros etc and then I realized I dont care and things got a lot easier, although I do NOT have FB,IG or X or accounts on anything similiar, for those against online banking the US mail is even less secure look into check scrubbing/washing
Smartphones are the biggest problem(hacking).............small pc s(no or very little security(firewall/antivirus))................and naive people(on every device). Dont be paranoid, just aware(evolution)......personal data/commerce/politics... Mzzls
