Yeah, so this is what i'm thinking about. it's sort of about proving to myself that i can conquer obstacles on my own, that i dont have to rely on another person to do it. there's a smallish mountain that i was thinking about climbing to the very top. it would be just a day hike, nothing major (not everest! hahaha), but i think that symbolically it would mean a lot to me, where i'm at in my life right now. anyone else do any solo journeys?
nimh, if you go, post an itinerary with family/friends and the local authorities charged with patrolling/attending to the area/mountain you plan to climb. One wrong step can twist an ankle and turn a day trip into a lfe-threatening situation. Be sure to pack waterproof matches, a mirror (for signalling), a thermal covering of some sort, and, of course, the first aid kit. And, no, I've never gone solo. There was always someone that wanted to go that I wanted along. BTW, have you ever gone climbing/altitude hiking?
I do it quite often. Most challenges I feel the need to take head on by myself, especially those surrounding nature and my ability to conquer a natural obstacle
luvndrumn~thx for the safety tips. that's always important. sure, this wont be anything like that though. it's a smallish mountain. haha, compared to some mountains, it's just a big hill. well, people paraglide off of it... but i'm not worried about altitude sickness or anything like that. LotusBlossom~sorry to hear about your haunted woods, maybe that was something you needed to learn about on your vision quest? dhs~that's exactly it. i used to do stuff like this all the time. then i got into a routine with no space to do solo trips. now i've got the time and the space. and the weather has been just brilliant lately! i've got itchy feet.
So it's a trail hike up a big hill? Gopher it!:X Just be sure to post the itinerary and take the warm stuff. I imagine Canadian nights can be verrrrrry cold. A camera wouldn't weigh ya down too much, now would it? We wants piccies!
Yeah, leave a message as to your intended destination, and due back time. A route map would also help if you go missing. Dress for the top of the mountain, not the bottom, and if you are going now be prepared for snow and sudden temperature drops. You may become snow bound. We went up Mt. Washington, New England (on the cog railroad) twice in the summer. Shortsleeve shirts an shorts at the bottom, snow, below freezing temps, and gale force winds at the top. Have fun.
climbing mountains is fun by yourself. i did it all summer....come round the end of the day, id hed up the mountain ridge and wander round smokin. i was out in the western portion of virginia
Doing a light uphill by yourself sounds nice. Its very cold here right now. I wouldn't imagine myself solo in severe weather though. Its nice to see frozen streams and icecles. In a few weeks we will have mayflies, in NJ. I hope to see your story posted.
ugh, i still havent gone yet maybe tomorrow if the weather cooperates. i've been climbing mountains, but they're urban ones. LOL not quite the same thing at all
yeah, it's not a bit mountain that I climbed but it's the biggest one in the area I've lived since I was born so it was very symbolic for me to climb it, I couldn't find anyone to climb with me, that is why I went alone.
