Trump aides feared he would make Capitol riot worse with initial videos, Jan. 6 committee says

    excerpt:

"Kellogg said that Ivanka Trump made multiple trips to the Oval Office to reason with her father. This took place as many others were frantically trying to get the president to stop the mayhem, which came after he called on his supporters to march on the Capitol.

“Is someone getting to [Trump]? He has to tell protesters to dissipate. Someone is going to get killed,” read one text from an unnamed person outside the White House to a White House staffer, according to documents obtained by the committee.

The White House staffer, also unnamed, responded: “I’ve been trying for the last 30 minutes. Literally stormed in outer oval to get him to put out the first one. It’s completely insane.”

The “first one” was an apparent reference to Trump’s first tweet in which he asked supporters to be peaceful, but did not ask them to leave the Capitol. “Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement. They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!" Trump tweeted at 2:38 p.m.

A former Trump White House official has already told CNN that Trump did not want to include the words “stay peaceful” in his 2:38 tweet."

What's disturbing about the gorilla TV meme is that Trump's toddler behavior makes it believable.
Still another scenario is that Pence would have actually received and counted the fake electoral slates instead of the real ones and made Trump the winner.

Cracks are emerging between Republicans as the fake 2020 electors scheme comes under more scrutiny

    excerpt:

"The fake certificates come from seven states, but they have nearly identical verbiage and formatting. Real certificates of ascertainment all look slightly different because there’s no standardized form. Yet the fake ones all look alike. The question: Who supplied the template?

Trump’s inner circle was obsessed with the fake electors scheme. Memos by Trump lawyer John Eastman show that he assigned these fake electoral votes a starring role in his procedural coup. It was these fake votes he hoped Mike Pence would count instead of the real ones.

Weeks before the electoral vote, Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows was texting about how much he loved a plan to seat fake electors. Trump advisor Steven Miller even went on television to describe the plan to present congress with “alternative” electoral votes. US Rep. Mo Brooks led an effort to throw out the electoral votes of the Biden swing states, reportedly with Trump’s blessing."

Cracks are emerging between Republicans as the fake 2020 electors scheme comes under more scrutiny

    excerpt:

"Arizona state Rep. Jake Hoffman refused to answer a reporter’s question about how he came to cast a fake vote for Trump, nervously referring all questions to “the party chair.”

The chair of the Arizona GOP is Dr. Kelli Ward, who was not only a fake elector but also Gohmert’s co-plaintiff. A number of the fake electors are high-ranking officials in their state parties. Wisconsin’s fake votes were even submitted by the state party’s chair on Wisconsin GOP letterhead.

Pennsylvania’s fake electors are already distancing themselves from their co-conspirators, stressing they refused to sign the electoral vote paperwork unless they could include a proviso that they weren’t the lawful electors unless a court recognized them as such."

Trump Allies Dug for Dirt on Republican Congressmen to Make Them Back Election Audits, Says Whistleblower

    excerpt:

"An ex-whistleblower turned Republican Senate candidate is lifting the lid on an alleged dirty-tricks plot carried out by allies of Donald Trump’s former National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn. According to The Guardian, Everett Stern—a candidate for the Republican Senate primary in Pennsylvania and head of intelligence firm Tactical Rabbit—has informed the FBI that Flynn allies attempted to recruit him to gather potentially damaging “intelligence” on top Republicans in order to cajole them into backing election audits in states where Trump lost in 2020. Stern alleges that, in April, two Flynn allies with the right-wing Patriot Caucus group contacted him to seek compromising information on two Republican congressmen—Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), who both backed Trump’s impeachment after the Capitol riot. Stern told The Guardian he has passed texts and emails about the alleged plot to the FBI. Flynn’s office didn’t comment on the report.":

Ivanka Ghosts Trumpland as Investigators Turn Up the Heat

    excerpt:

"Daniel L. Feldman, a former assistant attorney general in New York, told The Daily Beast that helping her father has brought Ivanka Trump dangerously close to the textbook definition of fraud. Because while investigators don’t identify her as the one who faked property values, she still bears some responsibility as the “executive vice president for development and acquisitions” who negotiated deals and turned over signed documents.

“It’s not just a messenger he sent over, it’s his daughter. If you sign your name to a fraudulent document, I don’t think you're just the representative. You’re a signatory to the agreement,” Feldman said.

But Ivanka’s use of that bogus information is what makes her a key witness for law enforcement.

Feldman, who now teaches at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, said “That’s the part of the traditional definition of fraud: material omission or material misrepresentation upon which the other party relies in order to gain an improper or illegal benefit for the person.”"

Trump spokesperson wants his bank records returned.

Judge denies Trump spokesman's effort to force Jan. 6 committee to return financial records

    excerpt:

"A federal judge on Thursday rejected an effort by a spokesman for former President Trump to force the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot to return a trove of his personal financial records that the panel had obtained by subpoena.

Taylor Budowich sued the select committee in December, challenging its authority to issue the subpoena for his bank records and asking for an order to claw back the documents after his bank had complied with the demand.

U.S. District Judge James Boasberg said during a hearing on Thursday that he would deny Budowich's motion, saying that the Constitution prohibits courts from directing such orders at members of Congress.

"There really is no question that this Court has no jurisdiction to order Congress under the Speech or Debate Clause to return documents that it has received," said Boasberg, who was appointed by former President Obama"

    excerpt:

"The criminal inquiry by James and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is investigating whether Trump’s company broke the law by claiming wildly different valuations for properties to business partners and tax authorities. Experts say such cases are traditionally very difficult for prosecutors to prove.

James’s civil case is focused on similar allegations and may be easier to prove. In that case, James has already deposed Eric Trump and is pushing to depose Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump, as well. In her filing Tuesday, James took direct aim at the siblings’ roles in what she alleges was a scheme to pass misleading information to banks, insurers and tax authorities to save the company millions of dollars in costs and taxes.

Eric Trump, in his deposition, invoked the Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination more than 500 times. Court filings show he was closely involved in pursuing tax easements for Trump’s Seven Springs estate and his Westchester golf club, both outside New York City."

Ex-Giuliani associate Fruman sentenced to one year in prison in campaign finance case

    excerpt:

"NEW YORK, Jan 21 (Reuters) - Igor Fruman, who helped Donald Trump's former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani collect damaging information about Joe Biden before he was elected president, was sentenced on Friday to one year in prison for violating campaign finance law.

In handing down the sentence of 12 months and one day, U.S. District Judge Paul Oetken said Fruman's solicitation of money from a Russian businessman to donate to U.S. political campaigns was serious because it "undermines democracy," but that the Belarus-born businessman was unlikely to commit a similar offense again.

"This is the sort of crime that's serious not because it involves any particular financial victims ... but because it undermines the integrity of elections in our country," Oetken said. "It adds to cynicism in the eyes of the public and to the perception that the system may be corrupt.""

Fruman pleaded guilty in August 2021.

Parnas fought it in court and lost in October 2021. He was convicted on all counts.

Former Giuliani associate Lev Parnas is convicted of campaign finance crimes

    excerpt:

"NEW YORK — A New York jury convicted a former associate of Rudy Giuliani on Friday of charges that he made illegal campaign contributions to influence U.S. politicians and advance his business interests.

The verdict was returned in Manhattan federal court, where Lev Parnas was on trial for more than two weeks as prosecutors accused him of using other people's money to pose as a powerful political broker and cozy up to some of the nation's star Republican political figures.

One part of the case alleged that Parnas and an associate made illegal donations through a corporate entity to Republican political committees in 2018, including a $325,000 donation to America First Action, a super PAC supporting former President Donald Trump.

Another part said he used the wealth of a Russian financier, Andrey Muraviev, to make donations to U.S. politicians, ostensibly in support of an effort to launch a legal, recreational marijuana business.

Parnas, 49, was convicted on all counts after about five hours of jury deliberations."
