I just got 4 books off ebay, one was about gradually becoming veggie. This will be probly my 4th or 5th try. The longest I went was when I was like 11 and 12, no meat at all then but now whenever I try I keep slipping. I am pregnant now and don't want my apetite for flesh to run away with me =) Any words of wisdom or support from other veggies????????
I guess I'm "becoming" because I only eat free range chicken, caught seafood (not raised), and cage-free eggs. Make your meals interesting and colorful. Make a scrapbook filled with pictures of mistreated animals and look at it when you crave meat. You'll do fine!
there's also some really good fake meat too. it doesn't taste exactly like meat all the time, but some of it is eerily close... good luck with it!
Veggie burgers and hot dogs are really good. You just have to get used to the taste... To me, meat doesn't do it anymore... Animals need to stay alive and with their fur! Fer:H
cok.net do the best vegetarian starter kit. http://www.tryveg.com/cfi/toc/ Plenty of great tips on how to get and stay on the wagon Good luck.
I am not all knowing, but my advice would be to eat plenty of meat (and all of the food groups) while you are pregnant. Meat is what is repsonsible for the evolution of the human brain and I think it is best that a growing fetus get the proper nutrients that it needs (we eat meat for a reason, evolution, our anscestors ate it and it helped them survive better, so we feel the need to eat it). I am not sure, but I think that there is things in meat that you don't get in other foods (and if so not in the same amounts), it is a high energy food that is good for a growing brain. Just one mans opinion.
Protein was responsible for brain size increasing, not meat in general. Sure the way they got there protein was from meat, but that doesn't mean there aren't other sources of the same stuff.
Do yourself a favor, pick up a book, and do some research before you respond to my post. I have no tolerance for ignorance.
its sooooooooo easy if you just stop thinking about it..... dont think oh god i am gonna have trouble not eating meat, how am i gonna do this... just say no, eating meat is some fucked up shit and i am not going to do it anymore, and eat other tasty stuff theres plenty of it if you just open your eyes and look around. and just forget about it, dont make it a big deal... if you find yourslef tempted, just pay attention to something else, like making a new recipe or maybe not even eating, or finding something organic in your grocery store... you dont even need to read or gradually switch i dont think, it couldnt hurt sure, but really eating meat is not very good for you to begin with and your body will thank you for it, via aging less quicker, working much faster and better not getting clogged up, and plus not being at the risk for the one of the main killers in america which is heart disease and problems.....
Do myself a favor??? Gee that makes me really care about your post......... I actually picked up 4 books on the subject. Can't find much good in the meat area unless I wan't the baby to be sucking down hormones and all the gross stuff that gets stuck in meat. Besides the fact that I am taking a million vitamins on top of my veggies and fruits and etc.... I wold rather have a healthy baby than one that has cholesterol problems because I filled my belly with fatty meat every day.
I think he was responding to the post above his... And how good are so many vitamins going to be for the baby? Naturally occuring vitamins and nutrients are healthier and better absorbed, not to mention you could eat lean meat, such as chicken and seafood, so I don't see how cholesterol would be a problem?
well i should hope the vitamins are good if they are the ones recomended by the doctors and health clinic, AKA prenatal vitamins. besides the fact that I have never been a big meat fan. I did some research and found that pregnant vegetarians have healthy normal babies and hearty pregnancies. Didnt find anything in any medical lit that suggested that veggies who eat a wide variety of whole and natural foods are at greater risk of nutrient insufficiencies than pregnant ladies who eat meat. As long as I get more protein, iron, b12, folic acid and calcium while I am preganant which can be found in vegetables and such....... I should be fine! WHole grains, beans, dark green and yallow veggies and nuts and seeds can be a good place to find some of this stuff.... And i didnt cut out eggs of milk so thats where the b12 and vitamin d come in.............
