my boyfriend and i disagree. not to say i'm at all a dirty girl, but i do not shower all that often. lately my skin is less than perfect...he says i need to start washing my face. i wash my face with water when it feels dirty. i never noticed a difference when i used to use face soap as far as blemishes are concerned; i always just found face soap to be drying and irritating. do you think that washing often really does the trick? i don't think so. i always wash after i play sports.
um.......why wouldnt washing do the trick? then your skin is clean and you wont get blemishes or have ugly skin.
Wash, but don't overwash. Twice a day is efficient. If the blemishes are full of pus, try dabbing a little peroxide on them. Also, don't overdo it on the makeup and make sure you get ALL the soap off.
my skin is pretty clean, that's why i don't wash often. blemishes are small and red, no puss. i don't believe in using soap too often, as it just proves to be so drying. if anyone has recommendations on good face soaps...
proactive is good to use. or just neutrogena face wash. but if your face starts to dry out use some lotion, plus it makes your skin look better i you do use lotion.
The best thing I've done for my skin is drink alot of water. I wash with Neutrogena Deep Clean gentle scrub and remain blemish free, well most of the time. But you should shower atleast 4 times a week
the bacterial theory of acne is just that, a theory. it doesnt seem to be holding up very well... there's another theory~the inflammatory response theory. dr perricone wrote a book about it and gives a lot of holistic solutions for dealing. check your library for the book, if they dont have that one, chances are they'll have one of his other books~the man is a holistic dermatologist, he's written several books that all seem to cover the same material, so just take home any one of the books that he's written, you'll find lots of excellent info.
I have to slightly disagree... im the same way... i hardley wash my face cause it gets really dry... and then i get dry patches that hurt... Most lotions just make it worse... The only lotion i found that doesnt agrivate my skin is ucerine... But it leaves my face greasy (even though it "NON_GREASY")... so i can only put it on at night. Most medicine for acne contains drying agents and will make people who have dryskin get even worse dry skin
hey faerie, have you tried using jojoba oil~it's not drying, and it wont leave you greasy. it's the oil (well, it's actually a wax ) that most closely resembles human sebum. ps, doesnt eucerine contain petrochemicals? blech!
I havent tried it... ill have to find some... Unfortuantly i think eucerine does but its the only thing that makes the dry patches stop hurting and go away... aside from a dermatologist... But i will try the Jojoba
I found with my skin, Nuetrogena just made blemishes worse. I just Clinique.... Ive found it to be a miracle worker. Twice I day I wash with the cleasning bar, wipe the exfoliating toner over my face, moisturise with the moisturiser then apply some pore minimising lotion. It does the trick.
Your skin sounds really sensitive so as a general rule of thumb you should treat it as you would treat a baby's skin! Use a gentle facial wash (not soap), one made specifically for sensitive skin. I use a mixture of wheat germ oil and rosewood oil as a nighttime moisturiser, it seems to work pretty well. Plus it makes your skin feel really really soft
I find Cetaphil works pretty well, doesn't really dry the skin out at all. Then follow up with some of those 2 in 1 Nutragena face pads(those will dry it out a bit though, just use them before bed when it doesn't really matter, plus you get used to them and they don't dry you out as much) works wonders. Another thing you can try is to not smoke pot "GASP!" if you do. It causes you to produce more oil in your skin, don't know why though.
thanks for all that insight. i have no blemishes right now, so i think that my problem is primarily hormonal (take that, boyfriend!) i've been just using a warm washcloth, seems like a compromise. i really hate all those products out there with more chemicals than plant matters; so i won't be trying nutrogena any time soon. whatever; what are a few blemishes now and again anyways?!
hm, actually blemishes are an outward sign that something's not quite right inside the body. some people feel that it means that the skin is needing to detox the body because the liver isnt able to detox everything and that the liver needs support. another theory is that people with blemishes are malnourished in some way~usually they arent eating enough omega 3 fatty acids or are taking in too many refined carbs and trans fats.
well Spectro Jel in sensitive is pretty good and it doesn't have parabins, SLS or any of that bad stuff that actualy age you quicker than you can amagine.... i never had breakouts when i was yonger but now i have them! it sucks but i'm finding out that i have food allergies that most people have, like dairy and wheat so i'm gonna go get tested because i could be allergetic to more things like glycerine so maybe you should go get checked out....or find a good gentile soap...
I wouldn't worry too much about washing. If your face feels clean & you only have a few zits every once in a while, then you're just one of the lucky ones whose skin takes care of itself. My girlfriend only washes her face two or three times a week (aside from maybe splashing with some water) and her skin is perfectly clear except for a zit or two around her period. I've noticed my skin heals better the less I wash and fuss with it but my face doesn't feel clean unless I wash twice a day and splash with water several times, and I can only use coconut oil (my moisturizer) during the summer because of seasonal humidity changes.
