you think? You shouldn't generalize and make assumptions. I run an entire business (i;m sure those of you who know are sick of hearing this) and I DROPPED OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL WHILE I WAS ON THE HONOR ROLL!! You can do whatever you want at any time in your life. I just want to stress that high school education isn't everything. It's important, but don't think it's THE most important thing in the world. I've seen so many people break down because they have no idea what life is like after school/ college. and work isn't all misery. You learn to like it. It's so gratifying.
Learning is also gratifying. So if the fact that I know that by working my butt off in school, I'll get to learn even more while spending the next 8 to 10 years after this in college and then actually being able to make a difference on the world from the inside out. All the good intentions in the world can't get you status. If I'm going to be an international lawyer and eventually a politician, working at a McDonalds with a bunch of dropouts with no aspiration in life whatsoever isn't going to be near as beneficial as learning Spanish and French in school. Sorry, but no.
it's hard to pay for school without a job. never mind all the other expenses involved outside of tuition. that said, not going to college certainly doesn't doom you to failure, and attending a good school certainly does not guarantee success.
keep the job. id love to have a job right now, but i have to wait til softball is over. Then I can start getting some of the money I desperatly need.
Ermm, I don't know what generalizations and assumptions I have made, but I apologize. Of course, there are many people who have become extremely rich without any more than a high school education (one example being many of the artists in the music business, most are making thousands or milions, and many haven't gone to or needed to go to college in order to succeed). I don't think that high school is the most important thing in the world, as a matter of fact I don't think succeeding in the business world either. I have other priorities. However, in terms of being able to support ones' self, one could concievably drop out of high school and start working. However, I would rather work at something I like, and many jobs do require a degree. If I was as fortunate as yourself than maybe I could start a business; however that is not something I would necessarily be interested in. College gives people a chance to explore different fields and as I said before it also is a new social and educational experience. One could be successful without a college degree, but I would rather not miss out on the experience itself. In love, Diana
college can be great. but my point is more towards the author of this thread and Silver Clover who seem to think work is not very important and if they learn a lot sitting on their ass, once they have to go out into the real world and work, it will be just as easy. You rarely get the job of your dreams fresh out of college. Say that I was up against someone else for a job as a business accountant (something that greatly interests me). One person has 2 years of college under thier belt and has been trained how to do the job, versus me who has done it successfully for two years and have proof I brought a business up from under the gutter. College is expensive as hell. You girls will most likely need to work a job while going to college. And it will most likely be food service. There's nothing wrong with that. Work is work and however you make money, that's ok. I am so adamant about making my point because of Silver Clover's aire of disdain towards the work force. As if every person who worked at McDonalds is a loser who will stay there forever. Ask your parents what some of their first jobs were. Some of your friends will start to work there soon. You can put all the extra curricular activities from high school on a job resume you want. But if you are a shitty worker, you won't be hired, or keep a job very long. It's good to get experience from both worlds. I have 2 semesters from courses I'm taking online. So I'm not against learning and college, I'm against the attitude that working is less important and it's for people who aren't smart.
I must say i'm impressed with any highschool sophmore that is putting up with a difficult job, parents & friends pressure, and to top it off honor classes. It's hard work but persevere. Been there done that. just don't forget to breathe and take time out for yourself. You'll make it and if people keep getting on your back it's ok to blow up as long as you make peace afterwards. You can do it-peace
