So I'm a musician, but no great expert on sound systems, but I always thought you could plug a guitar straight into a PA system; but the sound guy they got at my college last night asked if I had an amp with me, and I ended up having to borrow a friend's.

I thought you only needed to use an amp if you wanted a particular sound, but someone told me your not meant to plug a guitar straight into a PA, 'cause the signal overloads the input, or something.

Is any of this stuff actually true, or do people just enjoy bullshitting me?

I dont know what it does as far as overloading the system, but it sounds like shit. Particular sound or not, you wont even recognize yourself without an amp. When you mic the amp you get a great, healty, fat tone.

mmm, I could play right now...

    Peace
