Missing Jan. 6 defense lawyer is recovering from illness, judge is told

    excerpt:

"WASHINGTON, Sept 2 (Reuters) - A lawyer who recently disappeared from public view while representing 17 defendants facing charges related to the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot was "beginning to feel better" but also "very sick," a federal judge was told on Thursday.

At a status hearing for Peter Schwartz, an Owensboro, Kentucky, man facing 14 riot-related charges, including felonies, Ryan Marshall, an associate of John Pierce, the lawyer who represents Schwartz and 16 other riot defendants, said he spoke to Pierce on Tuesday evening and the absent lawyer said he was "beginning to feel better."

But Marshall said he then spoke to a friend of Pierce on Wednesday who told him Pierce remained "very sick" and had spent most of Wednesday asleep."

As expected, Trump endorsed former NFL football star Hershel Walker to try to unseat Warnock for U.S. Senate seat in Georgia in the 2022 election.

Warnock won the runoff election in Georgia in January 2021 which gave control of the Senate to Democrats.

A football player for the Senate. Sadly, it might work. Some people will vote for any Republican as long as it helps them take back control from the Democrats.

Sometimes I feel like this country is the Titanic heading for the iceberg. We're trying to avoid the collision, while Trump, his followers and the Republican Party are all saying, "Full speed ahead!"

Alabama elected former football coach Tommy Tuberville to the U.S. Senate in 2020 with the help of Trump.

Trump and Giuliani tried to call Tuberville during the riot at the Capitol to try to have him delay Congress certififying the Electoral College results but dialed the wrong number and reached Mike Lee.

Giuliani left a voicemail message intended for Tuberville in the evening but dialed the wrong number again. The message went to another senator and became public.

As riot raged at Capitol, Trump tried to call senators to overturn election - CNNPolitics

    excerpt:

"Sen. Tuberville? Or I should say Coach Tuberville. This is Rudy Giuliani, the President's lawyer," he said according to to the transcript.

"I'm calling you because I want to discuss with you how they're trying to rush this hearing and how we need you, our Republican friends, to try to just slow it down so we can get these legislatures to get more information to you," Giuliani said, referring to unfounded claims of voter fraud in the presidential election.

"I know they're reconvening at 8 tonight, but it ... the only strategy we can follow is to object to numerous states and raise issues so that we get ourselves into tomorrow -- ideally until the end of tomorrow."

Tuberville was unaware that Giuliani had tried to reach him until it was publicly reported, according to the source.
Tuberville was likely seen by Trump and Giuliani as someone who could help further their cause on Wednesday, as he was among a group of six GOP senators who voted to sustain an objection raised against Arizona's electoral votes, which failed 93-6.

Tuberville is known for making a dumb remark that he would use his U.S. Senate seat for fundraising purposes for himself, which violates federal law.

Tuberville ultimately filled the seat once held by Jeff Sessions who went to work for Trump as U.S. Attorney General. Trump later disowned him for not being totally loyal to him with respect to the Russian election interference investigation.

Sessions recused himself from the investigation which enraged Trump who eventually installed Bill Barr who resigned in frustration after the 2020 election.

Former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville flips Alabama Senate seat back to Republicans

    excerpt:

"Tuberville, meanwhile, had broad Republican backing after winning a runoff against former US Attorney General Jeff Sessions earlier this year. The seat he now takes is the one Sessions used to hold before he left to work in the Trump administration.

Tuberville has backed Trump’s plans for a border wall, tax cuts, and repeal of the Affordable Care Act, and is poised to be a staunch conservative once he’s sworn into office. Beyond his close alignment with Trump, however, Tuberville has been vague about what his legislative priorities will be when he gets to the Senate."

Jeff Sessions tried to regain his seat in the U.S. Senate after leaving the Trump administration. He was beaten in the primary by Tuberville whom Trump supported to retaliate against Sessions.

Sessions should have kept his U.S. Senate seat instead of tangling with Trump.

That's the point. There are plenty of intelligent people that voted for Trump in 2016. Many of them knew he was the wrong person to hold the office......but they also knew he was the Republican with the best chance of beating the Democratic opponent.

So, they voted for him because it was vital to have the GOP hold the top office......... whatever his (or her) qualifications might be.

It was a repudiation for having an African American as president.

Also because let's face it, Democrats are just plain evil. Always promoting bullshit like civil rights, women's rights, protecting the environment, and peace. We must preserve the stautus quo!

Texas rednecks are always prepared to go down the toilet, and I've never heard of a single protest in the state. If you want democracy these days, get the fuck out of the south!
