""You are a STAR," Barr texted Pat Cipollone, who was also Trump's White House counsel at the time. That's according to a trove of text messages the Justice Department released this week.

Barr sent the text to Cipollone on January 30, 2020, as Trump's defense team reached the end of its argument against convicting and removing Trump from office.

At the time, the House of Representatives had impeached Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The charges related to his months-long effort to strongarm the Ukrainian government into launching politically motivated investigations targeting Joe and Hunter Biden in an attempt to damage Biden's viability as a Democratic presidential candidate.

While demanding the investigations, Trump also ordered a hold on nearly $400 million in vital military aid to Ukraine and dangled a White House meeting that Volodymyr Zelensky, the newly inaugurated Ukrainian president, desperately sought."

Barr did numerous, sleazy, personal favors for Trump to defend him and his associates, but Trump demanding that he go along with the lie that the 2020 election was stolen from him was too much, even for a lackey like Barr.

"Barr, meanwhile, developed a reputation for going to bat for Trump and functioning more as his personal defense lawyer than as the nation's chief law enforcement officer since he was confirmed as attorney general in early 2019.

Trump frequently praised him in public and referred to Barr as "my attorney general." But Barr's fortunes took a turn for the worse in 2020, when he was unable to find sufficient evidence to support Trump's claim that the FBI launched the Russia investigation in an effort to sink his presidency.

Trump's anger with Barr reached a boiling point near the end of the year, when the attorney general refused to publicly endorse his conspiracy theory that the presidential election was "rigged" and stolen from him. The final straw came when, contrary to Trump's claims, Barr told reporters in December 2020 that the Justice Department had uncovered no evidence of widespread, nationwide voter fraud."

 

Barr resigning wasn't enough for Trump.

Trump next tried to have acting AG Rosen go along with the big lie that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

When that didn't work, Trump had a scheme to dispose of Rosen and replace him with Clark who was a dupe for believing truther narratives about the 2020 election.

That didn't work either because a number of DOJ officials threatened to resign together if Trump tried to complete his scheme, similar to Nixon's Saturday Night Massacre when a number of officials resigned because they were not willing to go along with Nixon's scheme to fire the investigator of the Watergate scandal.

 

All of that occurred at the end of December and early January.

The Electoral College had already convened on December 14, 2020.

Trump's pressure call to Raffensperger to try to give him 11,780 votes to overturn Georgia's election (which he couldn't do) occurred on Jan 2, four days before the insurrection at the Capitol.

It shows the utter desperation of Trump to try to overturn the election which was nearly impossible at that point, other than Congress objecting to the Electoral College certification on a state-by-state basis on January 6. That failed and it was interrupted and damaged by Trump's riot at the Capitol

 

U.S. senators Kelly Loeffler and Jim Lankford who had planned to object changed their minds and didn't object because of the riot.

Kelly Loeffler lost her bid for a U.S. Senate seat in the Georgia runoff election on January 5, the day before the Capitol riot.

Trump planted so much doubt in the election process in Georgia that some of the GOP voters said they were boycotting the runoff election.

Loeffler's loss gave control of the U.S. Senate back to the Democrats.

Trump lost twice with Loeffler.

 

Send him to a good taxidermist, and stuff him with his own pillows.

Its an old country joke. Any damned fool can call themselves a taxidermist, but he deserves special treatment.

 

Instead of condemning the truck bomb threat at the Capitol, Trump ally Mo Brooks said that he understood the anger of such people, which could encourage more threats.

Statement by Brooks:

“Although this terrorist’s motivation is not yet publicly known, and generally speaking, I understand citizenry anger directed at dictatorial Socialism and its threat to liberty, freedom and the very fabric of American society,”

Brooks' apologetic remark sounds similar to that of Trump during the Capitol riot when he said he understood the pain of his rioters.

Trump statement at 6:01 pm on January 6, 2021:

“These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long,”

Judge Sanctions Trump Allies And Orders Legal Education For Failed Election Lawsuit

"Tine attorneys aligned with former President Donald Trump who filed an unsuccessful lawsuit challenging Michigan's 2020 presidential election results will have to pay financial penalties and face other punitive actions for their legal effort, a district court judge ruled on Wednesday.

"This lawsuit represents a historic and profound abuse of the judicial process," U.S. District Judge Linda Parker wrote in her scathing decision on the case.

"It is one thing to take on the charge of vindicating rights associated with an allegedly fraudulent election," she wrote. "It is another to take on the charge of deceiving a federal court and the American people into believing that rights were infringed, without regard to whether any laws or rights were in fact violated. This is what happened here."

The ruling stems from a lawsuit brought by the attorneys — including Trump backers Sidney Powell and Lin Wood — which sought to decertify Michigan's election results under the false pretense that ballots had been manipulated in Joe Biden's favor.

Biden won Michigan by more than 150,000 votes."
