I'm sorry if this sounds completely ignorant of me, and I don't mean to bother you people with my questions...but I haven't found anything that really explains to me in simple terms what nuclear proliferation is, who's conducting it, who's being affected, why it seems so controversial, etc, etc. If someone would gladly give me some resources on how I can find out about this whole ordeal, I would really appreciate it. Again, I feel really out of place in America Attacks...So please excuse my complete lack of knowledge on this subject.
Nuclear proliferation is the spreading of nuclear weapons to additional countries or groups that don't currently have them. It's a bad thing because the more fingers there are on the button, the more likely it is someone will push it. Who's conducting it: Pakistan is probably the biggest offender here. A.Q. Khan is notorious for his selling of nuclear secrets on the black market. Russia is also somewhat guilty; some of the nuclear material following the collapse of the Soviet Union is still missing. Who's being affected: Everyone, especially people who live in the conflict zones or potentital conflict zones of the world, such as India, Pakistan, Israel, Iran, Taiwan, or Korea. Why it's so controversial: It really isn't, outside of this board. 99% of people would probably agree that it's a bad thing. The only reason some people here support nuclear proliferation is good old-fashioned America-hating. These irrational fools believe that as long as America has nuclear weapons, everyone else should too.
You can get a good, brief summary of the Non Proliferation Treaty here http://www.fas.org/nuke/control/npt/ Links to the treaty itself and more information are also provided.
I wonder why old Bushie Boy isn't jumping onto the backs of other countries who have nukes. Iran to Bush : "Why shouldn't we have Nuclear power ?" Bush : " (smirk) "coz youre a terrorist" Iran : "So are you and Israel" Bush : another smirk..maniacal chuckle......a wink to Laura....one chimp expression, and a narrowing of the gap between his eyes....
Typical knee-jerk response. Blaming America for everything is easier than thinking, I suppose. You can't honestly be so naive as to believe that if Israel voluntarily scraps its nuclear program, Iran would do the same? Iran does NOT simply want military parity to protect itself from Israel; it wants to push Israel into the sea.
History would tell us a different story. An Iranian monarch hasn't launched a war of aggression since 1739, and since that time Iran has been on the defensive. But I suppose the American way is to simply deem them the "Persian menace."
TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) -- Iran's parliament Sunday unanimously passed a resolution allowing the government to continue its uranium enrichment activities, despite recent efforts by European negotiators to curb the program. After the vote was passed, several lawmakers stood up and shouted: "Death to America." ============== Why do you keep making excuses for violations of the Non-Proliferation Treaty? What is it about a nuclear armed Iran that makes you think the world would be better off?
Whether people think it's good for the U.S. to have nukes or not, doesn't change the fact that the fewer people who have them, the better. As Kandahar said, the more fingers there are on the button, the more likely it will be pressed.
I agree...Also possibly that if america did not have them everyone else would give them up as well ?.. america along with other nations are talking with each other to bring the threat and need for nuclear weapons down .. rather than feel that nuclear is the only real threat and ultimate tool in global supremacy , but still having too maintain a 'threat' at the same time (very cold war still) .. would you say this is true ?... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_proliferation
