Well I've never posted here before, but I was wondering... since the afghanistan war, the fall of Sadam Hussein's regime, and the start of the occupation in Irac by America and others, there has been many awfull suffering such as many terrorist attacks in Irac and the crimes in the Abu Graib prison. But even though it didn't go perfect, we've had elections in Kabul, Baghdad and ramallah the last half year. are these positive changes, will they last? Do you think that, even though of all the injustice and suffering caused by these wars and terror, a new time is arising for the middle east, a time of coming closer to the western country's, and democracy? I don't know much about these things so I don't want to come with conclusions very fast, but there are elections in afghanistan and irac, there is a spark of hope in the situation Isreal-palestine, and maybe over the next half decade, Turky might join the EU...won't people in the middle-east country;s around start to wonder why they can't vote etc. and thus starting another movement in yet another asking for democracy?
Turkey is indeed becoming more democratic, mainly due to its close ties to the European Union. Everywhere else in the Middle East...I'm not so optimistic. Afghanistan is definitely better off now than it was under the Taliban; but I don't really think DEMOCRACY has much of a hold there. Iraq is just a complete mess, and I highly doubt it'll become democratic in the near future. If anything, it'll regress into theocracy or another autocrat will take power.
