Sorry I'm posting so much. lol I'm just having so much fun with my dreads!

I got tired of my head being oh so frizzy. Most of it was at the roots. I tried some beads in the ones that were really bad and I liked it so much I did them all. Yep, every dread at the roots has a bead. And some have beads in the middle just because I was having so much fun. lol

Personally I think they look neater. Knowing me I'll change it a bit and add or take out things as time goes on. I was thinking of replacing some of the beads with knotted material or maybe taking some charms and threading them into the dreads. I have one of a faery I just love! :D

Anyways, here are some pics. What do you guys think?

hey post away! We like all the posts! I think it is really cute. I love beads in dreads. I use beads to help loops form into my locks and flat dreads to become rounder.

*hugs* Thanks. Do you have to take out the beads when you wash your hair? I've heard that hair shrinks a bit when it's wet (ie. isn't as thick) and I'm wondering if they're going to fall out. I had twisted the dreads when I put the beads in and when I let it go the thickness of the dread keeps it up.

    *hugs*

nope I never take the beads out! The thickness of your dreads will hold the bead in place. :)

    cute!

great thing about having beads in is you can swap them with otehr dread heads and give them away as presants. Thats what i do, my dreads have bits of trousers and beads and all sorts in them :)

ack I didn't say that right. No I meant to help the loops that already exist form into the dreadlock. Putting a bead over it helps mat it down and round it out.

lol yeah actualy when i read that again it does make sense, just want totally clear. :) well beads must help cos your dreads are beautiful. Iv not tried beads but im looking for some hemp, i havnt found a shop near me that sells it. I want to try a few things with it. one idea is to wrap some dreads with strips of hemp with about 2" hemp then a 2" gap, so i have stripey dreads! hehe

Why can't you grow them hon? Work or something?

To everyone else, thank you for the kind comments! :D

magnificentnuggets, how did you get all those beads to stay in? lol I'm also looking for other ways to decorate them. I'm having a lot of fun. Some of the beads have fallen out and some seem to be quite stuck (would have to cut the dread to get it out). lol

hey Gez, what part of the uk are you from? Cos i live in Brighton so we are lucky enough to have a Hemp Store. (they only sell hemp based products... including hemp didges :S) and thats where i bought my hemp thread from. Theres also another Hemp based store in Camden in london, its quite new i think only been there about a year.

If you really cant find any just let me know and if you send me over the money for it and postage i'll send it over to you (a ball of the thinest twine (thats what i use for necklaces and its a good thickness) is about £2.50 i think)

hhaha thanks guys i had a 6 hour ride and a van full of friends with a shitload of beads, hemp, ribbon, and twine. i love to make my dreads all crazy, although when i do over do it i have to wrap a nice big towel around my head to fall asleep. getting them in was not a big deal just took some sting and weaved the beads in, i have also learned from this, u have to be very careful when taking these out, i messed up quite a few of my dreaddies, there all tattered and lumpy where i had trouble removing beads and twine
