    Gamma ray bursts are another phenomenon that could potentially kill life on Earth if one happened to occur in our galaxy or a nearby galaxy. They're associated with galaxies but no one knows for sure what causes them. They may be caused by a star being swallowed by a black hole or two black holes colliding with each other. They were discovered by accident by the military which was monitoring gamma ray pulses associated with the testing of atomic bombs.

    I used to know a dude that swore the world would end May fifth, 2005, or 5.5.5.


    I expect we will find out soon if he's right or not.

    I heard that if this were only 10,000 light years closer it coulda destroyed life on earth. VERY FUNNY that one!! omg that is funny.

    my first thought was maybe it caused the effect of the tsunami...timing suggests...is that possible?

    no according to the mayans, the world is supossed to end on december 23 2012. and their astronomical calculations were off by like .33 seconds.

    There was a cheapskate sci-fi movie decades ago about the Sun having a hiccup and screwing up the Earth's atmophere. It was actually a pretty good movie, from a sci-fi standpoint. I can't remember the name of it. It was probably made in the early 70s.
