I went to the doctor today and was diagnosed with mono. She prescribed me a corticosteroid hormone (which worries me a bit), a decongestant, and an antibiotic. I feel much better after taking these meds and it's only been 5 hours. Has anyone had mono before? How long does it take to go away? The doctor really got me worried about complications to my spleen and liver. Has anyone had complications from mono? What should I do to keep my spleen healthy? I'm really paranoid! Everytime my stomach grumbles i think "Oh, sh** my spleen." Basically what I'm after is for someone to reassure me and to say that I'm gonna be ok. -Alberto
I had mono very very bad... I had it for 4 months before i was diagnosed (i pretty much fail school cause i sleep through it) Your spleen and liver are fine... just sitting around youll be fine... Basically dont do any exercises or stranuous movement.. No rough housing and the such... just sitting around relaxing youll be fine... And listen to your body... Youll know if somethings wrong... And listen to the doctors orders... I was limited to easy movements for 6 months... if they gave yo a time frame follow it...
Thanks. I feel like a pussy for getting all worked up, but I always assume the worst. I haven't gotten much sleep lately cause I have this rotten pain in my throat, but hopefully it'll go away soon so I can rest up.
i had mono this summer and boy did it suck, i had a fever for 2 weeks and they didnt perscribe me ANYTHING because they said i just had to wait it out. basically the cure is to rest, i was told if you go towork right away, or do basically anything strenuous that it can be very bad and cause other uncurable diseases, so REST. and the spleen thing is because it sometimes enlarges it, and the only way it will rupture is if someone is like fake wrestling with you, or your playing football or being tickled to death, and your spleen gets hit hard, and you should be resting anyway so its pretty much impossible as long as you dont decide to have a rousing wrestling match anytime soon... a lot of people who end up rupturing dont know they have mono to begin with and are playing contact sports that cause this to happen. basically YOU WILL BE FINE. drink a bunch of liquids and take it very easy for a few weeks. soo many people get mono its amazing, and the complications are very rare.
Once you have mono you always have mono.. Its the Epstein-Barr virus... you will live with it forever... you can have a relapse... espcially when youre near someone with it... but its not bad (unless you only had a mild case of it ... same with chicken poxs.. get it mild you may get it again).. You just feel a little run down and tired... no sore throat, no spleen enlargement.. nothing.. just run down.
