Well not so fast Mister T. The exact wording is idols in many parts of the Biblical text. However, both the Catholic and Islamic churches do use the term icon. The many references which I have seen were about the icon statues which are used in Mexico and deem alright by the Catholic Church but opposed by Islam, because an icon is an idol. In today's example, it is a golden icon like the golden calf of the old testament. With the Republicans, it's an icon or idol of a golden jackass.
