I really need your help! I've wanted to make my own clothes for ages but have never had any patterns, etc. I wondered if you could help me, please. The sort of thing I mean is the shape of all the pieces of material that are used to make trousers, etc. Please help. Thank You
Turn your clothes inside out and look at the shapes. Or, open up the seams on an old pair of pants and you can use the pieces for a pattern.
Yup, I love getting old clothes that have been worn beyond repair and using them as a pattern. Just cut or (if you have the patience) use a seam ripper to cut upen the seams.
thank you nimh for posting that link and thank you vw1989, i was wondering about the samething. love and misspellings apple seed.
When I first tried making my own patterns, I failed miserably. But, I found an old book at a junk store about tailoring, printed by Singer. I think I paid about 50 cents or a dollar for it. It has lots of explainations about pattern pieces and tailoring and how to fit things. Anyway, I have seen many other books on the subject at junk stores and used book stores. I think most pattern companies and sewing machine companies printed similar books, in the 50s and 60s. Of course, the styles are outdated (which isn't all bad), but the information still works. If you can find something like that, it is very helpful.
