WTF lookie here What the hell are folks thinking? Do you see the connection here? com·mune n. <LI type=a>A relatively small, often rural community whose members share common interests, work, and income and often own property collectively. The people in such a community. The smallest local political division of various European countries, governed by a mayor and municipal council. A local community organized with a government for promoting local interests. A municipal corporation in the Middle A com·mu·nism n. A theoretical economic system characterized by the collective ownership of property and by the organization of labor for the common advantage of all members. Communism A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people. The Marxist-Leninist version of Communist doctrine that advocates the overthrow of capitalism by the revolution of the proletariat.
What's your point? That communal living has something to do with Communism as a system of state government??? Are you really that uneducated about social structure and stratification? Read John Zerzan or Daniel Quinn and come back.
I simply posted the def of commune and the def of communism, and they seem very similiar, you can figure out the rest for yourself.
Ya but you seem to think theres some profound truth behind it, I know my path follows many communist Ideals, yet I don't beleive in leaders or followers because any such defined relation obligates one to a type of oppression, even in democracy, you would be a blind fool to say no one in American society is oppressed. Look at felons, how can we be sure what they did is that much of a crime, If weed is legalized/decriminalized in twenty years then weed felon's being stripped of their right to vote will become seen for as what it is, oppression of representation based upon their beleifs. Keep in mind of course I said defined, as I do acknowledge leaders and followers are naturally manifest social entities sprouted of diffrent levels of knowledge in the task at hand.
Exactly. I don't think many people going into a commue for the reason of being a communist... It's more the idea of everything/one being equal. It's really more a type of a community than the system governmental idea. I'm sure you hate the idea of what yours is yours but is also mine, but really if someone is into the idea of being in a commune you don't place a name to many objects. It's more of a big family. It's a wonderful idea!
Christmas (n.): 1. Dec. 25, celebrated by Christians as the anniversary of the birth of Jesus. 2. Christmastide. Christianity (n.): 1. The Christian religion. 2. Christians as a group: Christendom. 3. The state or fact of being a Christian. See the connection? Christmas and Christianity both seem to have something to do with the Christian religion...pretty freaky, huh?
Communes have more to do with Socialism than Communism, and I don't see what's wrong with that. Socialism works very well in small groups, and is better than Capitalism.
so·cial·ism n. Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy. The stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between capitalism and communism, in which collective ownership of the economy under the dictatorship of the proletariat has not yet been successfully achieved LIKE THIS IS BETTER?????????
Yes, of course. Look at the first part of definition 1: "Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively." This is the best description of Socialism. The second definition is not nearly as accurate, because it is just the definition according to the Marxist-Leninist, and not the global definition of the term. Another reason that the second definition is not accurate is that it mentions a "dictatorship", which is something that not every socialist or even communist government is aiming at. In fact, there are many ideas for democratic socialist governments, anarchy based society (yes, anarchy is a form of socialism), etc. A working example is the Israeli 'Kibbutz' communes, which have absolutly no trace of dictatorship in them, nor a government that makes decisions.
Well, you see the two definitions- theoretical communism and how communism has manifested itself. Communes are different in that they have been around in one form or another for all of human history and beyond, where as "Communism" in how it has manifested in large countries isn't quite as time tested a means of social organization.
ROFLMAO It's my opinion that to get so wrapped up in words and definitions is to miss the point in any communication - the essence. For example. the word i want you to ponder will follow. I will post the word - all who read - please explain the images that appear in your head. Describe as best as possible please. . . . , , , , , BIRD =)
I'm glad at least one other person appreciated my dumb joke...the point was simply to parody the kindergarten logic that started this thread, the logic of: (a) we all know that "communism" is really, really bad (we might not know what it means, but we know it's bad), (b) the word "commune" sounds (kinda, sorta) like "communism" (c) ergo, "commune" must be really, really bad too Guilt by linguistic association... p.s. I just remembered a funny scene (I can't remember what TV show/movie I'm stealing this from), where a guy gets really excited because he notices how Notre Dame the university in Indiana and Notre Dame, the cathedral in Paris BOTH HAVE THE SAME NAME..."there's got to be some connection...think about it," he says to his friends, who are amazed at his stupidity...
A commune is like a giant family...... when you were growing up your parents had control... does that make your family communist... didn't think so.. The all work together, play together, and take care of eachother.... don't knock what you don't understand
Yea at 19 im sure you understand the whole world and the logic of it, id just stay in west virginia.....
Thier is a close relationship to the whole by def, and by comparison and I posted it just to see how the young and inexperienced would reply.
So, because a book/web-site/sourse says one thing, it's an axiom? Tell me have you live in a communist country/nation? Have you also lived in a commune? Then tell me how EXACTLY alike they are.
Actually communes are closer to Communalism (which is a social system) than they are to Communism (which is an economic system). Oh and what is so bad about being a Communist you Fascist Capitalist pig dog.
It's the whole cold war thing. Just like when the US tried to end the 60's by spreading lies about weed, or when they attacked Iraq by telling people that it needed "liberating" and had WMD's. When the US wants to destroy something, they care little about such silly concepts as "truth". Telling people that all commies are evil was a very convinient thing to do at the time, and the stereotype stayed. I am sure that as a Russian, I know a lot more about living in a communist country than the starter of this thread. True, many bad things have been done in the name of communism. All of those "bad things" were caused by the need to have a dictatorship established in order to maintain equality and sharing. In a commune, the need for a leader is not needed, and all the negative aspects of communism disappear!
boy!, some people get so defensive and then even more offensive. i find it all quite amusing. a humorist is to humor, what a typist is to type, what a scientist is to science, what a communist is to commune. and all this angst in the 'communal living' forum
