While Googling for cool custom made clothes I came across this: [IMG]
It's all of $300 and it's something I think I could easily make myself between a pair of old jeans, raiding my dad's closet for old ties, and dropping by the local Goodwill. However, I've never really made anything before so I don't quite know how I would go about doing it. I don't have a sewing machine so it would be kind of time consuming... Is there any special needle I would need to be able to pierce the denim in order to attach the ties? Any tips from anyone who's done something similar?

That is so cute. I wish I could make that, but I don't have the patience.

I don't know about the denim on top..kind of screws with the flow of the skirt. I'd rather make it purely out of ties (like scarlettischasingroses was saying) but make it a miniskirt. Either that, or keep it long so its fit for a pirate!

Miniskirts aren't my style =P The only reason I want to keep the denim is so that I wouldn't really have to measure anything because the denim part would already fit.

Then how about using an old zippered skirt that already fits you well for the base? Seems like it would be easier. Well thats if you don't like the denim.

I made a tie skirt like that last year. I don't have a sewing machine either, so it took a verrry long time. All I can tell you is to have lots and lots of patience, and a good model who will stand still while you pin the ties together. :)

I think I'll get a length of black elasticy cloth the same length about as my favorite skirt is around and use that as the waist band, make the ties go down to about my knees, and then use the skinnier leftover pieces of the ties I've already used to cover up the cloth as a belt. That might work...

thats pretty cool, I agree though, I dont really like the denim top. Ive always wanted to make a long one, with a drawstring waist.
