Ditto on the small screen. Hello from Connecticut! My Gran was Irish but grew up in Thirsk, so I love hearing people who talk Yorkshire. I did it myself as a small child, having been mostly raised by Gran, but it disappeared when I went to school and was exposed to the New England accent common to all the kids in school. I do miss it though. A song for you by James Barnes: Yorkshire Ballad. Have a good time, and find your bliss. It's sure to be here somewhere!
Hi Angelmama! I'm not native but by now an adopted yorkshireman, via Wales... When I first moved here at 18, I could barely understand the locals lol!
Hi there! I lived in Leeds for about 16 years, 4 years away and I miss it a lot! I miss the city life tbh. Thanks for the welcome!
Sounds like the trouble I had the first time I read Wuthering Heights. As soon as I realized that the dialogue was not misspelled but Yorkshire talk, it was easy. I was used to Gran, after all. I just had to let go of my obsession with proper spelling!
I am a little Welsh as well-just a bit. My Gran's great grandfather was Welsh, as was my only ancestor of note, through whom that gentleman descended. This was Sir Henry Morgan, who my Gran always insisted was NOT a "bloody pirate", no matter what the books say. No, he was a privateer, and later became the Governor of Jamaica. She defended his honor most fiercely, having married one of his descendants!
