I wrote a little program that writes simple rhyming poetry. It's at its alpha stage, so it doesn't make much sense yet, but that's soon to come. Plea by Poete Virtuale "Lo how tame it is that she is as true as the husk being real ! See how quaint it is that it is as true as the asterisk being outstanding ! And lo, how clean she is!" And that intransigence that was as gigantic as the ford's grill. Does he not spill? And that feud that was as envious as the trepidation's rag. Does my heart not gag? The succor is sparkling , but is not as shrill as the stay. See how witty is the clear day! Does my heart not ken? Does she not feel the nervous pen? My heart approached the leg and before the gainsay stood the risk. And that cordon that was as tight as the embellish's disk. Can the delineate compete with the cringe? Behold how melodic is the wandering binge! (I wrote this poem in 46782 milliseconds) * * * Vacillation by Poete Virtuale "Does a woman know not of bewildered Napoleon or delicious Cassandra? Can he be compared to the encouraging , silent alcove? Can the man be compared to the gigantic , stale presumption?" The exuberant diatribe, the creepy implosion and the cove. And that profundity that was as raspy as the upbraid's grove. The chubby tadpole, the cold patron and the hook. Hourly , he came in the troubled book. My head is tense and kind and oh how it fringes! My leg is uneven and cooing and see how it binges! Cleopatra could rake obediently but not disallow! Lenin was as anxious as the binge. The maul is bloody , but is not as hissing as the cane. Does the man not feel the squealing rain? Doubtfully , he came behind the shivering chain. Does she not smell the flat rain? (I wrote this poem in 41121 milliseconds) Fission by Poete Virtuale "See how stormy it is that my heart is impossible! It knows not where the thoughtless assuage is. Above me? Yes; the repudiate is witty . And lo, how glamorous he is!" Anxiously , she came in the puny shower. The malinger is modern , but is not as grubby as the flower. The trepidation is rich , but is not as spicy as the lake. Does the man not shake? Does the man not sing? Virgin Mary could fly rightfully but not ding! Frida could undo bravely but not write! Does he not bite? And that exigency that was as obedient as the derivative's july. Cleopatra could dream crossly but not fry! And that synopsis that was as puny as the commemorate's sake. Behold how dry is the strange cake! (I wrote this poem in 47013 milliseconds)
they're so.. innocent. And the strange thing is, they all mean something, and they could all mean an infinite number of things! Right on.

So far, the program is pretty simple and there is not much of a trick to it. It has a large database of nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, etc. There are many predefined structures of sentences from which it chooses random ones (something like "The [adj] [noun] [verb] [in/on/behind...] [my/her/his/its] [noun]"). The rhyming is done by accessing an online rhyming dictionary (http://rhyme.poetry.com/) and parsing the HTML file to find all the words that rhyme with the word we need it to rhyme with. It then checks a regular dictionary to check which of these words are of the correct type and uses a random one. Really, it's quite simple so far. The next phase I am working on is a word association thing. When it selects a word, the program will generate a list of 10 or so random words that could come after it. It then uses a series of google searches to see which of these words tends to be used along with the previous word and selects the most suitable one. Hope it wasn't too boring
Awesome program, Syntax. Hehe... I used to play around with Ray Kurzweil Cybernetic Poet quite a bit...
Perl is great for AI, but since this is a very basic AI, I just made it in Java. But I haven't used any OOP elements, so I could just have well made it in any language that allows a connection to the internet.
A random juggernaut. Sleeping dog or waking lion? Or neither. The script reminds me of many responses found on newsgroup entries. Syntax without sense. Apes can paint but computers can't write. Let it be.
