So yea, today i found out via a blood test that I have both oral and genital herpes. I was pretty shocked to say the least as I have only had 3 partners in my life. My first partner was an old girlfriend, and both of us were completely unexperienced before each other, so it can't be her. Then there is a girl I have fooled around with a few times, never full sex, but oral and anal. We'll call her Tara. The last partner is my current girlfriend, we'll call her Robyn. Now partner #1 is already ruled out. I have talked to Tara, and she got tested right before we fooled around and was clean. She swears that between the time she got tested and we fooled around that there wasn't anybody else. I believe her, she has no reason to lie. I talked to Robyn as well and she got tested back in November, and was clean, and I am the only person shes slept with since then. So I'm racking my brain, how in the hell could i have possibly gotten this? Also, its really bad because i think it has caused a lack of trust with Robyn, and this really might cause some problems. Now the only other options are: from www.herpes.com You can get genital herpes from someone who has oral herpes (cold sores) if they go down on you. or I got it from a toilet seat, which apparently is possible. Does anyone have any experience with this? I am really angry and sad that i will have to live the rest of my life with herpes!
Oral herpes is WAY WAY more common than people understand. Some thing like 1 out of 3 people have oral herpes. Have you ever gotten a cold sore in your mouth? A canker sore? That oral herpes. Most people that have it don't even know what it is or even that they have anything. You have as good a chance of having got it from one of your parents when you were a kid than of getting it from a girlfriend. The oral that is, lol. And given that most people who have oral herpes don't realize it, any one of your previous partners could have given you the genital herpes and simply not realized that there was any virus there to pass along.
The blood test for any kind of herpes has an insanly high number of false positives. It testd for the antibody to the virus, the only problem is that nearly everyone (7/10 if not more) have been exposed to it and it sill come up positive if they have it or not. The only real way to tell is if you have multiple breakouts (the only real symptom of herpes) or if you have what you think is a breakout (it's pretty obvious) and go to a doctor and get it tested for the actual virus and not just the antibody then you'll know for sure.
Slightly possible but highly unlikley. Unless ofcourse someone rubbed their sores all over the seat and then you went in immeadiatly after them and did the same.
1. Have you had an outbreak? 2. Was the test taken during the outbreak? If the answer to either question is "NO" then you need to be tested again DURING AN OUTBREAK (if you have one). Unless you are shedding virii it's next to impossible to get an accurate test. At least that is my understanding, having dated a few women with HSVI and/or HSVII and not contracting it.
