I just thought I would post this here because I know a few people have mentioned that they use Microsoft's Anti-Spyware. Here's the lastest threat to Microsuck. A trojan which targets the Microsoft Anti-Spyware program. It sounds like this one is particularly nasty. Here's a quote from the source "the trojan steals credit card and other info, turns off anti-virus programs (and disables the beta Microsoft anti-spyware software), deletes files on the computer and downloads code from the internet as well as installing more malware on the computer." Here's the full story. http://www.neowin.net/comments.php?category=main&id=27021 Just thought I would inform you all in case you haven't already heard. My personal recommendation for spyware detection removal is to use Webroot's Spysweeper and Adaware. If you can't obtain a copy of Webroot's Spyware PM me, because it is a commercial application. If you're not interested in getting it from me then I would just suggest using the combination of Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy. Both are free and have been posted numerous times on here.
Thanx so much for posting that Cause my computer is got that crap real bad. I blame my younger brother though because of all the internet porn sites he goes too. Cleaning it up right now, if it keeps up guess i'll just have to reboot everything
Unfortunately a lot of people think that trojans, worms, viruses, and spyware are all the same thing. I say this because you say that your computer "has that crap real bad". I'm assuming that you are talking about spyware, not a trojan. Spyware tends to cause annoyances such as popup windows. A trojan (also known as a trojan horse) is a "backdoor" into your system. Most trojans don't operate in the manner as the one I mentioned above. There are usually two parts to a trojan. The server, which would be the part that would be on your computer. The second part would be on someone else's computer and would act as a kind of remote control in order to control or gain access to your computer. Once they had access they would be able to do whatever they wanted to with your computer. A spyware detection/removal app is not going to find a trojan for you. Most good anti-virus programs will though if you keep the virus definitions up to date. As for rebooting... that isn't going to help you. I'm assuming that you mean reformat. That probably isn't even necessary either. Sometimes it just takes a little time and effort to clean out your computer and to keep it running smoothly. If you ever need help with that I'm sure that there are plenty of people here who could help you out. There have also been a lot of decent posts in this forum related to the removal of spyware and other unwanted pests.
With some trojans and viruses (virii?), they'll end up in your restore archive, but can somehow rear their ugly heads and do their dirty deeds without you doing a system restore. To get rid of these evil bits and bytes, you'll have to disable system restore to get rid of the trojan, virus or whatever hideous thing is festering in your computer. (To disable system restore, look it up for your system and then print it out).
AD-AWARE SE AND SPYBOT "search and destroy" are free and clean spyware fairly good. Micro Trend IS equal to the top 3 anti virus but it last a whole year instead of 4 or 6 months. like Norton.
This page has everything you could possibly need to get rid of spyware. https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/soft6.htm I personally just use the combination of Webroot's Spysweeper http://webroot.com , and Adaware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ . I have yet to find a better spyware detection/removal program than Spysweeper as of yet. For virus protection I would highly recommend NOD32 http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm over any other including Norton and McAfee. It has a higher detection rate than both of them and also uses up less of your system resources. They are celebrating 7 years of having a 100% detection rate. If you are looking for free virus protection then AVG Free is definately the way to go. http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ Most Antivirus programs will also detect certain trojans, but it is a good idea to have a program which is specifically made for detecting and removing trojans. For this I would recommend checking out this page. http://www.anti-trojan-software-reviews.com/
