What were you doing when you heard the 9-11 news?

I was visiting a friend in downtown Boston when the planes hit as I indicated in a similar thread posted back in 08'

remember 9/11?

 

I was working in a factory in Birmingham (in the UK ) and one of the guys had a Portable TV on his milling M/C and he came over to tell me about it ! I had no idea what a "world trade center " was before that day

 

I was cross-country hitch-hiking in the USA , so I just sat down for a day while the hornets swarmed .

 

10th grade study hall when the first plane hit.

 

I was in Spain at the time listening to the radio when the news broke. When the 1st plane hit, it sounded like a dreadful accident, then the 2nd, well I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

 

I was working. Delivering product to a local business, watched it on the tv at the account. Could not grasp what was happening at first.

Local top 40 radio station was talking about a Cessna flying the streets of New York!!

All were watching on computers when the 1st tower came down.

 

I think I turned off my PlayStation (which was old by the time 2001 rolled around - really old. I think there was already PS2...) and it was on the news; something totally foreign to me at that time. I had a warrant or something. I know I worked at Skechers because in the wake of 9/11 there were layoffs or a recession or something. And the malls were pretty vacant.

Anyway, the warrant*. When everything wound down like that - it really slowed down and no one went out - I turned myself in on the arrest warrant. I spent some time in work furlough, which is a work program where you're incarcerated, but you can keep your job. They charge you a percentage of your wages or something, but I forget how that works. When I got laid off there was a grace period, when I looked for jobs, found one in footwear somewhere else, but eventually decided to not work and finish out my sentence in the county lockup. I can't remember what I was in jail about, but I know it was related to being on probation. Oh, yes... It was a situation where I left the state, went to Colorado to live in Denver for 5 months having cashed in a trust fund (which I spent and I think maybe even some got stolen because I wasn't smart or careful) that my parents had put together so I could go to college (which is terrible and I'm remorseful), and came back with a warrant out.

I was doing an office job and my boss said a plane had hit the World Trade Center. I thought he meant a light aircraft had crashed, and didn't think too much about it. Then I saw the pictures on tv. A few days later we joined in the minute's silence, leaving the office and gathering on the grass outside. I couldn't help thinking of all the hundreds of thousands we'd killed in Iraq though.

 

I went to the bank right as they opened at 9:00 am. I had been waiting in line for them to open. My teller asked me if I heard about the plane crashing into the world trade center. I thought she was kidding. We talked about it while she waited on me. I was in there about 5 minutes and as I turned to walk out, I heard another teller say a second plane had crashed. I went back to work and huddled around the only cable feed in the building with anywhere from 4-10 others watching the events unfold.

 

wifie was watching some kind of business b.s. rukiser or something, and i was doing what i always do, much as right now. relatives who lived in the burroughs, had long since moved upstate and out of state by the time it happened. not sure what i was doing the OTHER 9-11, ten years earlier when aliende was supposed to have shot himself in the back with an assult rifle.

 

I think I was in 9th grade. They made an announcement towards the end of 1st period and did a moment of silence. I didn't understand what was happening until I went to 2nd period. They had the TV on and we watched the 2nd plane hit live.

 

What happened between 9 and 11?

 

For us it is the date 11th September, The twin towers!!!!

it would depend on which 9-11 of course. same date in 1991, salvadore aliende supposedly shot himself in the back with an uzzi.
not sure what i was doing on that one, i think i was probably looking for work and living in some kind of subsidised housing.
the one in 2001, my wife was alive and we were watching the morining news. we living in the same country but a continent away.

i do remember considering and still do, the destruction of the infrastructure of several middle east countries excessive and inappropriate,
and any link between sadam husain and osama bin lauden at best tenuous if not entirely mytical.

this is one of those no one will ever likely know the whole real story. a
