I do my main thinking around midnight every night.
I open up a bottle of beer, make myself a sandwich and just chill out.
    The living room is silent.
    Wifey is in bed.
    No telly on.
    No Radio on.
    No music on.
    Just the sound of silence.
I likely put my 12.9" IPad Plus on and check out the papers and stuff, but generally I just THINK.
I usually arrive in bed around 3.00AM and cuddle up to Wifey's Bum!.
    Bliss.
    Pure BLISS!

I am not allowed to drink alcohol at the moment, but do love the way you enjoy your beer and in this case a sandwich.
Further on no sound on, do that too here. Most precious time!
    Thanks for sharing Boozer

I do a lot of thinking in the early hours, although I am a little odd at times, I think in my sleep too! I keep a pad and pen beside my bed to make notes on for later. I remember a couple of years ago, we had a problem at work and couldn't sort it, anyway it was about 2am we're both fast asleep in bed when I suddenly leapt up, "got it, I understand it now!" I yelled, the wife woke up wondering what the hell was going on, I made a quick sketch on the pad, rolled over and went back to sleep. When I woke up in the morning there it was on the pad, the solution to the problem at work. TBH I think that sometimes I don't fully shut down at night, a bit like a dog who appears to be fast asleep but wakes up the minute you walk past it no matter how quiet you are.

early mornings... Example: this morning I decided to take a summer course to lighten the load for my fall semester from 3 to 2 classes by taking one of the classes that's offered beginning next week.

I wake up early, and I find that it's easy to think things through while the world sleeps. :)

@olderndirt When I walk it is later the day, but am mostly quite relaxed in my head at that moment.

@phil1965 Good idea to have a pen and paper next to the bed. I have my moments when I wake up and yell 'Eureka' lol

@soulcompromise the sound of silence can do miracles. Hope your classes will do you any good.

Thanks all for letting us know. It;s fun to read.

Usually later in the day when I have nibbled a little on a pot brownie. All sorts of thoughts emerge then.

I prefer the very early hours of the morning, somewhere between 5-7 AM. when most others are still sleeping, and the town hasn't fully awaken yet. The peace and quiet is mesmerizing and makes thinking easier.
