America Is Trapped in a Pandemic Spiral

    excerpt:

    "9. The Habituation of Horror

    excerpt:

"The U.S. might stop treating the pandemic as the emergency that it is. Daily tragedy might become ambient noise. The desire for normality might render the unthinkable normal. Like poverty and racism, school shootings and police brutality, mass incarceration and sexual harassment, widespread extinctions and changing climate, COVID-19 might become yet another unacceptable thing that America comes to accept."

The complacency of inexperience is seen from the personal level (behavior of the late Herman Cain), to cities, to the state level, and all the way up to the national level (Trump).

America Is Trapped in a Pandemic Spiral

    excerpt:

    7. The Complacency of Inexperience

"Even when the virus began spreading within the U.S., places that weren’t initially pummeled seemed to forget that viruses spread. “In April, I was seeing COVID patients in the ER every day,” Karan says. “In Texas, I had friends saying, ‘No one believes it here because we have no cases.’ In L.A., fellow physicians said, ‘Are you sure this is worse than the flu? We’re not seeing anything.’” Three months later, Texas and California saw COVID-19 all too closely."

The 'give me liberty or give me death' rally cry in the U.S. is related to the desire to return to normalcy, albeit a perverted one where the promotion of liberty (lack of adhering to health guidelines to combat the virus), as an attempt to defy the virus, is part of what makes it so deadly.

America Is Trapped in a Pandemic Spiral

    excerpt:

    "5. The Normality Trap

In times of uncertainty and upheaval, “people crave a return to familiar, predictable rhythms,” says Monica Schoch-Spana, a medical anthropologist at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. That pull is especially strong now because the pandemic’s toll is largely invisible. There’s nothing as dramatic as ruined buildings or lapping floodwater to hint that the world has changed. In some circles, returning to normal has been valorized as an act of defiance. That’s a reasonable stance when resisting terrorists, who seek to stoke fear, but a dangerous one when fighting a virus, which doesn’t care."

COVID-19 Can Last for Several Months
The disease’s “long-haulers” have endured relentless waves of debilitating symptoms—and disbelief from doctors and friends.
    Story by Ed Yong

COVID-19 Can Last for Several Months

    excerpt:

"COVID-19 has existed for less than six months, and it is easy to forget how little we know about it. The standard view is that a minority of infected people, who are typically elderly or have preexisting health problems, end up in critical care, requiring oxygen or a ventilator. About 80 percent of infections, according to the World Health Organization, “are mild or asymptomatic,” and patients recover after two weeks, on average. Yet support groups on Slack and Facebook host thousands of people like LeClerc, who say they have been wrestling with serious COVID-19 symptoms for at least a month, if not two or three. Some call themselves “long-termers” or “long-haulers.”

I interviewed nine of them for this story, all of whom share commonalities. Most have never been admitted to an ICU or gone on a ventilator, so their cases technically count as “mild.” But their lives have nonetheless been flattened by relentless and rolling waves of symptoms that make it hard to concentrate, exercise, or perform simple physical tasks. Most are young. Most were previously fit and healthy. “It is mild relative to dying in a hospital, but this virus has ruined my life,” LeClerc said. “Even reading a book is challenging and exhausting. What small joys other people are experiencing in lockdown—yoga, bread baking—are beyond the realms of possibility for me.”"

Michael Bloomberg to spend $100 million in Florida to boost Biden

    excerpt:

"It has been nearly 100 years since a Republican won a presidential election without Florida and a Biden victory there would dramatically narrow Trump's path to winning the Electoral College. It would require the president to hold all that states he won in 2016 including battleground states like Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. He currently trails Biden in the polls in five of those states."

The bank bail out started when Bush was president and the Republicans ran congress.

Xtreme has strict coronavirus guidelines, yet it made an extreme exception for Trump.

Trump to hold first entirely indoor rally in nearly three months

Trump Nevada rally first entirely indoor rally in nearly three months - CNNPolitics

    excerpt:

"Xtreme Manufacturing details on its website an even stricter policy for attendance levels than the state has put into place: "We have restricted meetings and gatherings to no more than 10 people in large areas, and when possible, to attend meetings by telephone or video conferencing."

A spokesman for the company has not returned numerous requests seeking comment about why it decided to host the rally.

The owner of Xtreme, Don Ahern, also owns a Las Vegas hotel which was fined after it hosted an August "Evangelicals for Trump" campaign event that exceeded the state limit and also violated some city health restrictions.

That hotel sued Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak, a Democrat, and a Las Vegas official after it was fined arguing the limit of 50 people shows "disparate treatment" of some businesses."

The last such Trump entire indoor rally was in Tulsa, the one attended by coronavirus victim Herman Cain.

Trump needs another Herman Cain to step up to the plate in Nevada to become a martyr for him.

Trump has been concocting various excuses for why he thinks he deserves an un-Constitutional third term after a second term that he thinks he deserves no matter what happens in the 2020 election.

He said that because he thinks he was spied upon that he deserves a third term.

The latest is that he thinks that the Democrats supposedly rigging the election against him in 2020 makes him worthy of a third term.

Trump Tells Supporters a Campaign Is Underway ‘to Rig This Election’ With 80 Million Mail Ballots

    excerpt:

"Noting that he’d seen an ad launched by former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign that featured his reported quotes mocking slain soldiers, Trump declared that he would now become “vicious.” “Now I can be really vicious … and we’ll start by saying ... that the Democrats are trying to rig this election. The only way they’re going to win is to rig it,” he said, adding, “We can’t let that happen. I hope you’re all going to be poll watchers.” He made a similar claim a month ago about election rigging being the only way he could lose. “We're gonna win four more years in the White House, and then we'll negotiate, because based on the way we were treated, we’re probably entitled to another four years after that,” he said."

Yeah, if that happens you can bet he’ll be spending most of those terms hiding in the basement of the WH like he did when protesters were coming for him. This is some crazy shit.

With a 35% approval of his response to the coronavirus, Trump has resumed fully indoor rallies to try to make it seem like the virus has gone away.

He damaged himself badly on support from the military, much the same as the coronavirus.

Conceding those two issues and concentrating on his law-and-order stance might be a less damaging option for him.

Trump has trouble with that also. The 'law-and-order' president broke the coronavirus law in Nevada with his indoor rally. He has to resort to trying to trick people into thinking the virus is gone as a result of his failed responses to the virus.

Donald Trump holds rally in Henderson, defying Nevada regulations

    excerpt:

"Eager to project a sense of normalcy in imagery, Trump soaked up the raucous cheers inside a warehouse. Not since a rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, that was blamed for a surge of coronavirus infections has he gathered supporters indoors. There was no early mention from the president that the pandemic had killed nearly 200,000 Americans and was still claiming 1,000 lives a day."

Donald Trump holds rally in Henderson, defying Nevada regulations

    excerpt:

"Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak, a Democrat, has limited in-person gatherings indoors and outdoors to 50 people since May, a recommendation based on White House reopening guidelines. In a statement released just before the rally began, Sisolak said Trump was “taking reckless and selfish actions that are putting countless lives in danger here in Nevada.”

“To put it bluntly: he didn’t have the guts to make tough choices,” Sisolak said of Trump’s handling of the virus. “He left that to governors and the states. Now he’s decided he doesn’t have to respect our State’s laws. As usual, he doesn’t believe the rules apply to him.”

The city of Henderson informed Xtreme Manufacturing on Sunday that the event as planned was in direct violation of the governor’s COVID-19 emergency directives and that penalties would follow. The Trump campaign pushed back against the restrictions."

Laws don't apply to the law and order president...
