The National Guard is not a law enforcement agency. They are a support group for cops.
I thought you were on the dean's list. I guess that was Jimmy Dean's list.

Notice our newest right wing addition didn't bother to answer my question I asked in 27862? On this page. They never do. I assume because an answer would require honesty about trump and would set themselves up for more straightforward questions about our orange toddler --one-- question-- at-- a-- time. Not to mention the probability of revealing their own character. So it goes.

William Barr was the U.S. attorney general during the 1992 LA riots.

In that era, discussions were still taking place about systemic race-related problems with the police departments, and the justice department was involved in investigating them. The Trump administration has avoided such approaches and has instead .focused on what Trump says is the need for more protection for the police departments.

How Barr's experience as AG during the LA riots previewed Trump's actions against protesters

How Barr's experience as AG during the LA riots previewed Trump's actions against protesters - CNNPolitics

    excerpt:

"The similar incidents -- and country's top law enforcement officer at the heart of both -- illustrate, in some ways, how little has changed in the intervening decades. The videotape of King's treatment highlighted the racial divide both in LA and the country -- and it spoke to the systemic racism between people of color -- specifically black men -- and law enforcement. And those same wounds are clearly driving continued -- mostly peaceful -- protests across the United States following Floyd's death.

But compared to the riots of 1992, the current faces of some police units and demonstrators protesting Floyd's death today are more diverse and multi-ethnic. And during the George W. Bush and Obama administrations, the Justice Department tried to hold some police departments accountable. Some departments were investigated and, when they were found to have violated constitutional rights, put under consent decrees. But in Trump's Justice Department, some of the previous efforts to hold police accountable, including the consent decrees, were dismantled.

The Justice Department declined to comment on this story."

The 1992 LA riots was the last time that the U.S. Insurrection Act was invoked. Local officials requested help from the federal government and Bush eventually invoked it.

Trump has threatened to use the Insurrection Act but hasn't invoked it.

How Barr's experience as AG during the LA riots previewed Trump's actions against protesters - CNNPolitics

    excerpt:

""I understood all the code sections and what you had to do. ... Basically the President has to issue a proclamation telling people to cease and desist and go to their homes. It's sort of an antiquated statute. And then if they don't cease and desist, you're allowed to use regular Army," Barr said.

He appeared to be referring to advising Bush to invoke the Insurrection Act to allow US soldiers to police US streets. Bush told Barr he would only use the military as a last resort, but eventually, armed forces would be sent in when he invoked the act through an executive order on the third day of rioting in LA

Two days after the order was signed by Bush, more than 1,100 Marines, 600 Army soldiers, and 6,500 National Guard troops were patrolling the streets of Los Angeles.

The riots did deescalate after the California National Guard, US military and federal law enforcement intervened. But when the riots came to an end, more than 50 people were dead and more than 2,000 were injured."

In contrast to the discourse that occurred between the federal government and civilians during and after the 1992 riots to try to grapple with systemic problems related to race and the police, Trump has used federal force in a frivolous manner to clear peaceful protesters so that he could do a photo-op at a church, apparently as a response to try to show he wasn't weak after being coaxed by his own officials to go to the White House underground bunker to 'inspect' it. It's exemplary of his superficial, showboat style of reacting to problems without knowing how to solve them.

The church incident was later criticized by various officials, including chairman of Trump's joint chiefs of staff, Mark Milley. It's another Trump type of incident that has likely contributed to his loss of support of members of the military, as indicated by various polls.

How Barr's experience as AG during the LA riots previewed Trump's actions against protesters - CNNPolitics

    excerpt:

"Bush and Trump have also taken a different approach to direct engagement with protesters and the civil rights community.

According to Barr, Bush was "very much engaged," speaking with "some civil rights leaders who were calling in." Bush also took heat for waiting five days to visit LA, touring the city and meeting with Black residents.

But so far, neither Trump nor Barr have publicly interacted with demonstrators, activists or civil rights leaders since the start of demonstrations. And there's no word yet on whether Trump would visit Minneapolis.

On Monday, Barr ordered security forces to clear peaceful protesters outside the White House, observing demonstrators from a distance within Lafayette Square, the park adjacent to the White House where demonstrators had previously gathered.

Security forces cleared out peaceful protesters with deterrents, such as pepper balls. Minutes later, Trump would walk across the area previously occupied by security forces and demonstrators to a nearby historic church, flanked by advisers and Secret Service, to pose for a photo with the Bible. The church, St. John's Episcopal Church, had been damaged and set on fire the night before."

I'm pro gun ............ but with some sensible restrictions on mental cases and violent felons not being able to get guns - at least lawfully. Straw purchases need to be eliminated, and gun show purchases must be tracked so mental cases and felons can't buy them at gun shows. Too many shootings have been by "legal" purchases by people with internet hate, racist, or white supremacy info-trails that should have been picked up by law enforcement - or their own family members. Black market .................. good luck. Remember alcohol prohibition?? What was the result from that??

Lincoln would be branded a Democrat today. Lincoln couldn't even make a primary in today's Republican party. Think of that ............. Lincoln today standing up for minorities' rights. He'd be called a commie, a socialist, un-American, a Constitution-hater, a "snowflake", a pussy, a "cuck", a radical, etc. Lincoln's dead ....................... let that actual U.S. hero rest in the peace he rightfully deserves. Don't tarnish & dirty his name with today's Republican party.

I'll never agree with Republicans as long as they work tirelessly to eliminate workers' rights, and weaken / roll back environmental protection laws. U.S. citizen workers ARE NOT PAWNS to make a few greedy bastards filthy rich. We HAVE RIGHTS - long-established rights - and will fight to protect them. Environmentally - we only have this one planet. We damn well better keep it clean.

A warning to the corporate GREEDY ...........

Jesus said - "It's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter Heaven. You cannot worship God and money."
And again He said - "Whatsoever you do to the least of my people, that you do unto Me."

So under-pay, take away health care that employees can't afford on the cheap, skimpy pay that you pay them, take away their God-given right to freedom and pursuit of happiness, make them work long, long hours for straight-time pay (since you want to eliminate overtime pay as is the law & has been for decades in the U.S.) - or NO EXTRA PAY- as in "salary" people to force EXTRA FREE WORK HOURS.

God sees ALL THIS - what you do to the least of His people - and thus .............. you do that unto Him. God doesn't care who makes the most money, or who has the most business success - He cares about how we treat our fellow man. Screw the little guy ..... you screw Him - by His own words.

This is exactly counter to what we see & hear today in the U.S. The corrupt, criminal, greedy, uncaring, self-centered and indifferent "power -brokers" preach "make money - any way you can." Keep pay low - slash benefits, make employees pay for their own health care out of the measly wages we pay them. Grab all you can get, any way you can. If you have to step on people ......... well they're sheep - and meant to be sheared. Buy our politicians so they'll fashion laws to our (corporate executives' ) benefit. None of those things escape God's eyes. And God's rules and words are the ones that actually count ...................... not those conjured up in the U.S. Congress by corrupt, bought & paid for politicians.

I realize I'm a few posts behind, but I have other items to attend to during my days!

Let's get one thing straight and very clear .................... being a cop DOES NOT put them above the law, or make them bias-free.

There are many great cops out there ................ but as in any other group of people - there are bad ones too. Ones who should NEVER be cops. to act or believe otherwise - like every cop is great and blameless - is foolish and blind to FACTS. The focus should be - by the police themselves - to root out the bad ones so as to not stain the rest of the police with the bad behavior of a few. Since that has not happened, and bad police behavior continues all around the country, outside agencies MUST step in and correct the wrongs for them. At the very least, body cameras should be mandated FEDERALLY - by law - across every police agency. Any officer de-activating their body-cam should have a 1 month pay suspension. NO EXCEPTIONS.

I am solidly for a great police force - and solidly against the bad few.

Remember eagles? He lasted about 3 or 4 days until called out on his scripted republican talking points. There's now another one above that I'm calling out. Main posts follow the republican talking points--no passion involved--no real arguments--just calling folks that post facts like egger, errofant, balbus ,flagme 15, hotwater, meagain, tyrsonwood and others--liars. He will last a while, go away and then there will be another one just like him assigned to the site. And not a single one of them have ever answered my list of questions concerning trump. Actually , it's rather hilarious ,but I assume pays well enough to give the BS a try..

Trump’s Nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize Was Apparently Forged. Twice.
    Henrik Pryser Libell
    Feb. 28, 2018

Trump’s Nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize Was Apparently Forged. Twice.

    excerpt:

"OSLO — The protocol for nominating and choosing recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize is one of the world’s most scrutinized and secretive.

A total of 329 candidates — 217 individuals and 112 organizations — are being considered for this year’s prize, which will be announced in October. The identities of the candidates are kept secret, and indeed, the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which awards the prizes, is forbidden from divulging any information about its deliberations for 50 years, and even then, only for scholarship purposes and at its discretion.

But a wrinkle in this time-honored process — the peace prize was first awarded in 1901 — emerged on Tuesday, when the committee announced that it had uncovered what appeared to be a forged nomination of President Trump for the prize. The matter has been referred to the Oslo police for investigation.

Moreover, the forgery appears to have occurred twice: Olav Njolstad, the secretary of the five-member committee, said it appeared that a forged nomination of Mr. Trump for the prize was also submitted last year — and was also referred to the police. (The earlier forgery was not disclosed to the public at the time.)

Inspector Rune Skjold, the head of the economic crimes section of the Oslo police, said that investigators had been in touch with the F.B.I. since last fall, which suggests that the forged nominations originated in the United States. He said the police believed that the same perpetrator was behind both forgeries.

Mr. Skjold said the earlier letter was subjected to a thorough and lengthy forensic examination, which the new letter is also likely to undergo."

An article that refers to the National Guard in the state of Wisconsin in the context of being activated and directed by state officials, in contrast to being federalized and directed by the President of the U.S.

Explainer: When the National Guard comes to town, how does it work with police?
Katelyn Ferral | The Capital Times
    Jun 10, 2020

Explainer: When the National Guard comes to town, how does it work with police?

    excerpt:

"What does the National Guard do, again? Are they the same military I’ve heard President Trump talk about sending into states?

No. The National Guard is a state-run arm of the military distinct from the active duty or reserve components of the U.S. military. Though it is controlled by the governor, the National Guard has both a state and federal mission. It can be deployed to help states after natural disasters, or civil unrest, but can also be sent overseas to support active duty and reserve troops on missions. When the Guard is called overseas, they are controlled by the president. The Guard has an Army and Air Force component that follow training standards and other protocols specific to those military branches.

When multiple law enforcement agencies are involved, as they have been during local protests, how are commands issued?

According to Acting Madison Police Chief Vic Wahl, other law enforcement agencies, including National Guard soldiers, are always at the direction of local law enforcement.

“We have our local partners here in Dane County that we work with regularly and have a lot of experience policing big events with. ... In terms of deployment and engagement, we're always going to start with our folks,” Wahl said in an interview.

Guard units are at local officials’ discretion in where or when they use force or how they will respond to a crowd, Wahl said.

National Guard members are integrated with local police officers, with a police supervisor over a larger group of Guardsmen, Wahl said.

“We have direct communication and control over how they're being used,” he said.

Can National Guard officers arrest people?

No. Guard officials cannot arrest people, according to Wahl."
