Charles Whitman wasn't a right wing extremist gun nut, no matter how much that would help the narrative. He was a former marine who murdered his wife, mother and 14 others and also caused a few dozen injuries to completely innocent people. It was later found that a tumor on the area of his brain that controls reasonable thought and behavior was the cause of his disturbing change in personality.
