The U.S. coronavirus death toll has increased by another 10,000 for a total of 190,000. It's the ongoing thousand U.S. deaths per day pandemic that Trump and other speakers at the RNC convention were referring to in the past tense as if it happened long ago and was cured by Trump. Coronavirus Update (Live): 26,239,051 Cases and 868,425 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Pandemic - Worldometer
Trump had a similar approach in 2017 of trying to cut federal funding to sanctuary cities. Trump issues memo to cut funding from "anarchist" Democratic cities excerpt: "Details: The memo directs Attorney General Bill Barr, "in consultation with the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Director of OMB," to publish a list on the Justice Department's website within 14 days that identifies jurisdictions that "permitted violence and the destruction of property to persist and have refused to undertake reasonable measures to counteract these criminal activities (anarchist jurisdictions)." Yes, but: Constitutional experts are questioning the legality of the action, including Harvard University law professor Laurence Tribe, who tweeted in response to the announcement: "Spoiler Alert: No such presidential power exists.""
This article explains the psychology behind why people support Trump. It doesn't say what to do to change their minds, though, because there are no answers. Trump supporters are cult members who are willing to kill and die for their leader. Mental health experts explain why ‘fearful’ Trump supporters are still clinging to the president — despite his many failures
Former GOP Michigan governor endorses Biden, calls Trump a ‘bully’ The former vice president has now received the formal backing of the Midwestern swing state’s two most recent governors. By QUINT FORGEY 09/03/2020 08:58 AM EDT Former GOP Michigan governor endorses Biden, calls Trump a ‘bully’
Mental health experts explain why ‘fearful’ Trump supporters are still clinging to the president — despite his many failures excerpts: "Multiple psychological factors seem to influence and explain his supporters. We have divided these factors into four major categories: Rebelliousness and Chaos; Shared Irrationality; Fear; and Safety and Order." "Rebelliousness and Chaos These supporters believe in Trump’s professed anger and rebelliousness, while often ignoring the content of the issues at hand. Trump’s talk of “draining the swamp” and of eschewing “political correctness” is attractive to them. They react emotionally and irrationally in embracing Trump’s decisions to create chaos, such as by sending federal troops into American cities to provoke hostile conflict with protestors. They enjoy and thrive upon Trump disavowing norms, rules, and laws. Rebelliousness and chaos can be a major psychological influence, but it can have serious negative consequences such as undermining the chance for real change." "Shared Irrationality Magical thinking. This is the belief that one’s thoughts, feelings, ideas, or words can bring about effects in the world. Or, similarly, that one’s thoughts, feelings, ideas, or words can cause something to happen. Magical thinking presumes a causal link between one’s internal, personal experience and the external physical world. This often emerges from an inability to distinguish fully between emotions and logical thoughts. Relying totally on emotion or “gut reactions” results in magical thinking. Trump engages in magical thinking almost constantly. This is especially dangerous regarding the pandemic: “It will disappear very quickly,” “We have it under control,” “We may have some embers or some ashes…” Many supporters engage in magical thinking and are encouraged and validated by Trump, leading them to align strongly with him."
Additional examples: Trump thinking that he will win California and New York. Trade wars are easy to win. It will be easy to fix the healthcare system. Trump telling the woman who was about to be evicted that he has a gut feeling she will have a better job next year. Trump claiming he had absolute authority over the states during the pandemic.
If he gets "four" more years, that's plenty of time for him to destroy our democracy and make himself dictator for life.
Trump is encouraging voter fraud by telling people to vote twice. Voting twice is illegal. He should be arrested.
Kenosha police seem to have had a cordial relationship with the gunman. Kenosha Shooting: Video Shows Suspected Gunman Kyle Rittenhouse Being Allowed To Leave Scene By Chris Tye August 26, 2020 at 6:41 pm Kenosha Shooting: Video Shows Suspected Gunman Kyle Rittenhouse Being Allowed To Leave Scene excerpt: "Police not only didn’t arrest Rittenhouse at the scene, but at the start of the night they thanked an armed group who had come out – and at the end of the night, video shows Rittenhouse was able to walk right out of the Kenosha hot zone. “We appreciate you guys, we really do,” a police officer is heard saying on video. Before there were bullets in the air, there were atta-boys for the so-called citizens’ brigade that showed up armed. “Thank you guys. Do you need water? Seriously. You need water? We’ll throw you one,” an officer says. With that, the crew – some armed with long guns – took on the night. They did not have badges, but did seem to have tacit approval from the same sheriff’s officials who told others: “You are a civilian. The area is closed. You are trespassing. Leave. Leave now.”"
The statements of the mayor, sheriff, and police need to be reconciled. The police were complimenting and offering water as courtesy to a 17-year-old with an AR-15. Kenosha Shooting: Video Shows Suspected Gunman Kyle Rittenhouse Being Allowed To Leave Scene "Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian made it clear Wednesday that the city does not want people with weapons to come in and try to help police under any circumstances. The county sheriff said their personnel hand out water to all types of people needing it, and doing so to these groups should not be taken a signal of support."
It's really concerning that you can scream to police that a man has just murdered someone and to have them do nothing. I don't know I've never tried it but I am 99.9% sure if I said there where I live now a cop would chase me and restrain me if I ran. If it's not true we will figure that out latter. That short moment right there goes a long way to proving why we need to de-fund or re-budget whichever term you prefer the police. Their union is about the only one Trump supports. Yet other unions are bad because they are corrupt and serve themselves before the customer. Interesting that they see all this with a Walmart employee but not a cop.
It leaves to the imagination what the police response would have been if an African American was walking toward the police with an AR-15 and people were shouting to the police that he had just shot a number of people.
Another Trump supporter has pulled a good one. John Merrifield just got sued by the government of Lafayette, Louisiana. Mayor Josh Guillory issued a public statement to say that Merrifield had created two fake Antifa accounts and announced that they were going to meet at two local sites in Lafayette. The pursuant police activity cost the city $75,000, according to Mayor Guillory. I've been keeping track of this fake Antifa activity for some time now. I've mentioned that they were the actual miscreants who had carried out burning, vandalism, and violence for the purpose of blaming peace marchers. The only party who benefits from a fake Antifa is Trump. He wants the American voters to fear this fake evil force which his own followers have created out of thin air.
