I have a urinary trach infection and they gave me antibiotics for it, the one antibiotic says it may decrease effectiveness of the pill. I am not on the pill, but i am on Depo, the shot. i am just going to assume that it will have the same effect on the shot and not have sex. But does anyone know for sure if it effects the shot the same as the pill... and mainly, when you are on birth control and taking antibiotics, how long do you hafto wait until it is effective again? just thought some of you may have been in similar situations since UTI's are common.

I don't know if it effects the shot, but I was told I had to wait a month for the pill to start working again after taking antibiotics.

Its usually better to play it safe and at least use a backup method or two, if not just go without (their are plenty of ways to do it without actually doing it ;)). I had a friend who got pregnent even though she was using birth control becuase it was effected by some medication she was on, and she was careful until she stopped the medication, but afterwards got straight back into it. You really ought to ask your doctor or pharmasist though since they will know if that perticular medication will effect your birth control, and if so how long you have to be careful.
